This is know to occur to some degree with aging, but other risk factors that accelerate this process have been identified. These factors include, high cholesterol high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes and family history for atherosclerotic disease

!src: Last summer, Annie Mattson Miller showed me where she was born. It was about 1/4 mile south of the Ririe (Heise) bridge over the Snake River, and about 1/8 mile to the west. She says Elwood was also born there in the home in Poplar. Annie recalls that there was not a doctor there when she was born, only her and her mother. 1987 Nov 27, WEM.
