FACT 1

The parentage of our Richard is not known, however in the following manuscript, I will present
the facts that lead to the almost certainty that our Richard Price was indeed a decendant of Thomas Price.

In 1810, there were approximately 550 families living in Floyd County Kentucky.
The Price family names recorded on the 1810 Floyd County Tax list and Town of
Prestonsburg are: Richard Price, Thomas Price, Thomas Price and Jesse Price.

Name:   Price, Thomas

1819- Thomas Price head of household, over 45, wife- over 45, one son under 16 (this was John A,) one son under 26 (unknown). NOTE: William, son of Thomas was not in Floyd County in 1810. according to Thomas Price and his decendants
written by   Reverend John E. Cox.

1810- Jesse Price is head of household,

1810- Price, Richard is on the same page as Thomas Price. Scroll down on the actual image.

NOTE: When doing a search for Richard Price in the 1810 census on Ancestry.com, he is not shown, but clearly is there.

In 1820, John Vanhoose is now listed in the Floyd County Census. (Taken Feb. 23, 1820) He is listed between Jesse Price and Hezekial Borders. John is the father to Elizabeth Vanhoose. The elder Thomas and Richard are not present. Jesse and Thomas Jr. are listed. Elizabeth Vanhoose and Richard Price marriage bond was dated Nov. 24, 1820.

NOTE: This must be the part of Floyd County that formed Lawrence County as the names on the 1830 Lawrence County census reflect such.

So the people did not move...the County changed.

Name:   John Vanhoose

Brief Fact on the children

RICHARD PRICE- Did Richard and Elizabeth Price have other children?

The order of birth of the Price children cannot be given. We know that James, the first known son, was born about 1822, on Brandy Keg Gap, in Floyd County. James married Emarita Blevins, daughter of Levi and Mary Blevins on May 03, 1843 in Lawrence County. James and Emmarita raised 12 children at Patrick Grave Shoals along Nats Creek where he owned 100 acres of land along side of Richard and Elizabeth Price.

Margaret "Peggy" Price, one of the older daughters of Richard and Elizabeth,
married June 20, 1844 to William Williamson, the son of Alden Williamson and Mary Polly Ward. Their marriage took place in Lawrence County.

Sarah "Sally" Price married Solomon James on April 7, 1849, They had six known children. Solomon is the son of John and Cynthia James.

Lynchia Price married James Preston on October 6, 1854 in Lawrence County.

Hannah Price married Amos Williamson November 8, 1859, in Lawrence County.
Elizabeth Price married William Lovins
(LOVENS) May 24, 1871. in Lawrence County.

Jane Price never married and was a school teacher at the Richardson Kentucky log school house on Branch, across from the Border's farm. She is interned Richardson Cemetery. source: Family letter from Emma Rita Tincher

Jane was a servant for Archibald Borders and Jane Preston and is listed with them on their plantation in the 1880 census of Lawrence county Ky.

FACT 2
In a 1964 letter written to Wilma Price Hale ( the daughter of Phillip Henry Sheridan Price ), Emma Rita Robertson Tincher ( the daughter of Mary Jane Price) writes in great detail about the family of Cleveland Price and Nancy VanHoose, and the cousin relatinship between the Moses Price line and our Richard Price line. This portion of the letter brings about another strong theory of Moses Price and Richard Price cousin relationship.

Pg.6
Recorded: Saturday, September 26, 1964
Ashland, Boyd Ky
By Emma Rita Robertson Tincher

"The Sally VanHoose and Moses Price line:
Son: Cleveland Price, his wife was Nancy VanHoose Price
Cleveland Price was 1st cousin to James Price, that is double cousins.
Cleveland & Nancy VanHoose Prices children are Sterling Price, Ethel Mae Price, Tenny Price, Pearl Price, Mary Price, John Price, and Kent Price. Ethel Mae Price married Perl Shepherd, Pearl Price m. Daniels (some mixup about the initals.) Mary Price married Ed Parks. Tenny Price married 1st. a Mr. Hicks, a son of her 1st marriage did live at Louisa. Her second husband was Elmer Fannin.
Sally VanHoose Price was your father's and my mother's Great Aunt Moses Price, a great uncle to either & both. Four of the children of this family have passed away. That is the Cleveland and Nancy Vanhoose children. I don't know yet if Nancy VanHoose was related in any way to Sally and Betty VanHoose. There are also mentions of other Price's marring VanHoose girls. We don't know if Wm VanHoose had any brothers or sisters. Mother said she could talk with her grandmother (Betty). She talked broken Dutch, but was unable to talk to the great grandfather WM.V.H. He was unable to speak the English language. It's odd, as his wife was an English woman, (mother couldn't recall her name). So the space in the first of the record is blank. So we are all probably related to some of the Paintsville VanHooses."

FACT 3
In Reminiscences of Bygone Years by Zachariah VAnHoose (1823-1887)

Zachariah states that Aunt Betsy and Sally both married Price men. Betsy
(VanHoose) married Richard and Sally (VanHoose) married Moses. He states
that Richard was an uncle to Moses.

If this statement is true, then Richard and Moses have Thomas Price as a common ancestor.
( Moses Price was the son of Jessie Price, grandson of Thomas Price).

We do know that Richard Price married Elizabeth VanHoose, both believed to be buried on Price Cemetery, Richardson.

In John E Cox's book on Price family, he mentions another son of Thomas,
unnamed, age given is a little different that age calculation I have on
Richard per census.

John Cox in his book states that Jesse is the only son that remained in
eastern Kentucky. He further states "Remember that Captain Price found only
two families in Floyd county in 1810 - Thomas Price with his two sons, and
Jesse. In 1820, only Jessie and family remained."

Donna Cox ask's: Did Captain Cox over look Richard? You will find him in the later census of
Lawrence County. Is he the unnamed son that they thought went west but
haven't find "hide nor hair" of?

We know now that there was a Richard Price in Floyd County in 1810. See information at top.

FACT 4

Margaret "Peggy" Price, one of the older daughters of Richard and Elizabeth,
married June 20, 1844 to William Williamson, the son of Alden Williamson and Mary Polly Ward.

Elizabeth Williamson Scarberry has shared the information written by her Aunt Lizzy.
and posts this on her website:

"William "Bill" Williamson

Generation 2
3. William "Bill" Williamson, born in 1821,was married i july 1844 to Peggy Price, daughter of Richard "Dickie" and Betty (Vanhoose) Price. Now this part will be a bit mixed up ,but i wanted to put it in before I got so confused myself that I couldn't get it down right.
William and Peggy had five children one being a son,James "Jim Peg" Williamson, who married Alma "Reenie" Boyd. Now she was the daughter of William Boyd, and Lousia Price.Who was the daughter of Moses and Sarah "Sally" Vanhoose,A sister to Betty Vanhoose.Richard and Betty are Peggy's parents and Louisa's grandparents, making Louisa Peggy's aunt . Richard and Mose were first cousins. My Grandparents shared their their grandparents. Now how confusing is this? Richard and Mose and Betty and Sarah were my GGgrandparents.
William "Bill" Williamson and Peggy Price were my Ggrandparents along with William Boyd and Lousia Price who were my Ggrandparents also.Confused yet? I'm not finished yet.
Sarah Price was Richard "DICKIE"Prices sister, she married Solomon James, Who in turn was a brother to Cynthia James ,wife of James Williamson Sr. James being a brother to William "Bill" Williamson,Asa, and Stephen.Who were sons of Alden Williamson Jr. Alden being my GGgrandfather.
William "Bill" died in 1850 or 1860,leaving his wife Margaret "Polly" Williamson my Ggrandmother, and their five children; Polly, James, Thomas, Elizabeth, and Allen, they all lived on nat's creek, Ky.Johnson, Co.

4. This is my grandparents on my fathers side.
James "Jim Peg" Williamson, born Jan. 1847 and died July 1922, married Reenie Boyd. She was the daughter of William and Louisa (Price) Boyd. Jim Peg and Reenie were Farmers and raised their family on Nat's Creek In Lawrence Co. Ky.Their children;

Bob Farley further explains:
http://www.bobfarley.com/genealogy/jim_peg_and_alma.html
The intertwined relationships of Jim Peg and Alma
(Note: I am a great-grandson of James "Jim Peg" Williamson. He was my grandmother's father-in-law. This document is based upon best information available, and is not intended as "gospel." The definitions of cousins is put together from such sites such as http://wymple.gs.net/~longstrt/consangu.html, where you can also find a chart to use in figuring relationships, if you don't like using the Relationship Engine I wrote.)
Some time in the mid-1800s in the hills of Kentucky, second and third cousins James "Jim Peg" Williamson and Alma "Reenie" or Almarena Boyd were married. One hundred and fifty years later, we're still trying to figure out how this dual relationship came about and what it means to our genealogy. Perhaps this treatment will shed some light.
First of all, anyone who is trying to figure out family relationships must know how cousins are connected. Here is that information:

First cousins share grandparents.
Second cousins share great-grandparents.
Third cousins share great-great-grandparents, and so on.

Second cousins
First, let's look at the second cousin link between James and Alma. This link comes about through James and Alma's relationship to Elizabeth "Betty" Vanhoose and Sarah "Sally" Vanhoose, who were said to be sisters. Betty and Sally were grandmothers to James and Alma, respectively. Betty and Sally's parents were the common relatives to both James and Alma. Following is a list of direct ancestors of James and Alma to their common ancestors.

JAMES'S LINK TO BETTY AND SALLY'S PARENTS
James "Jim Peg" Williamson
Margaret "Peggy" Price Williamson -- parent
Elizabeth "Betty" Vanhoose Price -- grandparent
John B. Vanhoose -- great-grandparent
ALMA'S LINK TO BETTY AND SALLY'S PARENTS
Alma Boyd Williamson
Louisa Price Boyd --parent
Sarah "Sally" Vanhoose Price -- grandparent
John B. Vanhoose -- great-grandparent
Given that the parents of your grandparents are your great-grandparents, and given that Betty is James's grandmother and Sally is Alma's grandmother, Betty and Sally's parents are James and Alma's great-grandparents. Sharing great-grandparents indicates that James and Alma were second cousins.
Third cousins
Next, let's look at the third cousin link between James and Alma. This link comes about through James and Alma's relationship to Moses Price and Richard Price, who were said to be first cousins. Their shared grandfather is thought to be Thomas Price. Following is a list of the direct ancestors from Alma and James to their common ancestor.

ALMA'S LINK TO THOMAS PRICE
Alma Boyd Williamson
Louisa Price Boyd -- parent
Moses Price -- grandparent
Jessie Price -- great-grandparent
Thomas Price -- great-great-grandparent
JAMES'S LINK TO THOMAS PRICE
James "Jim Peg" Williamson
Margaret "Peggy" Price Williamson -- parent
Richard "Dickie" Price -- grandparent
Unknown Price -- great-grandparent
Thomas Price -- great-great-grandparent
We see that Thomas Price is the common ancestor of both James and Alma. Although we don't have Richard Price's father's name, we must surmise that Richard's grandfather is the same as Moses's grandfather, since sharing a grandfather is the prerequisite for being first cousins. If Richard and Moses were indeed first cousins, it is certain that their fathers were brothers, the sons of Thomas Price. Unfortunately, the name of the brother who was Richard's father has not been determined by research.
