In the name of God Amen, I Rachel Wilford do make and ordain this instrument my last will and testament. To my sister Martha Hill, I give my silk dress, black silk apron, black cloth shawl and bombagett(?) dress. To my niece Rachel Covalt, I give my red shawl and black silk apron. All my beds and bed clothes, of every description, I desire may be divided equally between my two nieces Dolly and Elizabeth Cowell, daughters of my deceased sister Sarah Cowel. To my brother Jacob Covault’s daughters, Sarah and Mary, I give to each one cotton petecoat. I give to Elizabeth Cowell, before named, my rattemelt (?) cloak. I give to Margaret Brewer a prest flamen (?) dress. My caps, I desire, may be divided between my sister and sister in laws. I give to my brother Jacob Covault a black silk hankerchief. The rest of my clothing, I desire, may be divided equally between Dolly and Elizabeth Cowell, my nieces before named. My books I desire to be divided among the children of my deceased sister, Sarah Cowell. My will is, after my decease, all my household furniture, not otherwise disposed of, together with all the livestock, that I may be possessed of at the time of my decease, shall be sold by my executor hereafter named and divided as follows. The proceeds of the sale of the household furniture, except the burau and ? to be equally divided between Dolly and Elizabeth Cowel, before named, and the balance, arising from the sale, to be divided between Solomon and Bethuel and Isaac Cowel, sons of my deceased sister. Solomon to take one half the other half to be equally divided between Bethuel and Isaac. Whereas, I hold three notes on Matthias Cowell, on each of which there remains a small balance unpaid. Likewise, one on Jacob Hill for thirty-one dollars dated the 30th day of June 1836 and one on Bethuel Covault for eighty-five dollars and ninety-five cents dated the 30th of June 1836. My will is that, after my decease, the amount due on the above notes be collected by my executor and after paying all my debts and funeral expenses, to divide the balance equally between Solomon, Bethuel, and Isaac Cowell, above named and, lastly, I hereby appoint and ordain my nephew Solomon Cowel and Hiram Stephens, the executor of this my last Will and Testament. In witness, whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal the 28th day of August AD 1837.

Before me Abijah N. Johnston, Register for the Probate of Wills and granting letters of Administration in and for said County. This day came, David Taylor and George Howard, the two subscribing witnesses to the within Instruments of writing and on their solomn oaths did say that they were present and saw and heard, Rachel Wilford, the Testator, within named, sign and publish, pronounce, and declare the same to be her last Will and Testament and that at the time of doing thereof she was of sound and disposing mind, memory, and understanding according to the best of their Judgment, observation and belief.
