Our earliest known Mattox ancestor is John Mattox born about 1667, died 6 Jan 1718 in New Kent County, Virginia. The family migrated to Lincoln County, North Carolina, on to Lincoln County, Tennessee and on to Carroll / Boone County, Arkansas. We have two ancestrial Mattox connections as both our grandfathers William Wesley Carpenter and William Solon Gaddy married Mattox women.
