Gaddy is our maternal surname through our mother, Hazel Cauline Gaddy Powell. We have traced our Gaddy line to Samuel Gaddy, born about 1786 in Brown Creek, Anson, North Carolina, a son of Thomas Gaddy (1753-1814) proven by Thomas Gaddy's will in Anson County, North Carolina. This Thomas is named in the will of Thomas Gaddy, Sr. Edgecombe County, North Carolina. Thomas Sr. is said to be a son of William Gaddy born1695 in Scotland, died 1752 in Chesterfield County, Virginia. According to Jim Powell, William left Scotland before 1719 and settled in Blisland Parish, New Kent, Virginia. I have no proof of this information, but there is a William Gaddy from Scotland in New Kent, Virginia in this time frame. Our Gaddy family migrated from Anson County, North Carolina to Lincoln County, Tennesse about 1820 and on to Carroll County, Arkansas about 1846.
