"Henry Abington was another early settler of the township, but
at a period considerably later than that of the Callaways. He
came from Virginia, but was of Scottish ancestry on his
father's side. His grandparents were John Abinton and Mary
(Watson) Abington. She died in Montgomery Co., MD, leaving five
children; Bowles, Lucy, John, Elizabeth and Henry. The father
afterwards removed with his children to Henry Co., VA. The
children all grew to mature years and married, some of them
settling in different parts of the County. Henry Abington of
Callaway township is still living and is one of the leading
citizens of the county as well as one of the oldest living
settlers of the township. He is a prominent and well-to-do
farmer; now living in retirement and he represented the county
in the Legislature for three terms.

"John Abington, of Scotland, came to America and settled in
Montgomery County, Maryland, sometime before the revolution. His
wife was Mary Watson. She died, leaving him a widower, after
which he moved to Henry Co., VA. The names of his children were
Bowles, Lucy, John, Elizabeth and Henry. Bowles, at the age of
18 years, joined the American army and served during the
Revolutionary War. He married Sarah Taylor, daughter of William
Taylor and Sarah Scruggs of Virginia, and they had seven
children: William N., John T., Susannah, Taylor, Bowles, Henry
and Lucy. William N. was a Methodist preacher and died in North
Carolina. John T. married Rebecca Taylor and settled in
Tennessee. Susannah married Thomas Travis and settled in St.
Charles Co., MO in 1830. Taylor married Amanda Penn. Bowles
married Mary Baldridge, and died ten days after. Hon. Henry
Abington, the only one of the family now living, married Maria
Smith, and settled in the western part of St. Charles Co., where
he now resides. He is an influential, public-spirited citizen;
has served three times in the Legislature of this state and has
held the position of Justice of the Peace for many years."

Perry) telling the story about Joseph Abington dying as a result
of a runaway team accident. He was 54 years old when he died. I
remember Honey (her cousin) saying he was as unusually strong,
young man for his age, which made the accident more tragic. My
guess would be that he was a dominant man for it seems to me
that it is a genetic factor that goes with my following
generations of Abingtons. Hardy individuals physically that age
slowly and late."
