NEWSPAPERS: The Crittenden Press Newspaper, January 21, 1892, Last Friday coroner Belmear summoned a jury and held an inquest over the dead body of a new born infant, found on the premises of the Rev. J. T. Yates at Sheridan. Circumstances point to the daughter Maggie Yates as the mother of the child. Her sister Emily Yates was an accessory to conceal the birth of the child. The verdict of the coroner's jury was to the effect that the child met its death in an unknown way. June 8, 1893, Rev. J. T. Yates, a well known local preacher, of this county, was before the quarterly conference of the Methodist church at Hurricane Saturday, charged with immorality, and by a vote of 13 to 5 the charges were sustained and the accused disbarred from preaching and expelled from the church.
