OBITUARY: Date: 22 Nov 1966 In ill health for two years Bert Elvis BEARD, age 77, of 358 Kennedy Drive, Rosewood Heights, Died at 2:25 A.M. today in Alton Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient one week. A resident of Bethalto-Wood River area for 33 years, Mr. BEARD was born 16 Feb 1889 at Norris City. His parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward BEARD. He had been employed for 16 years at Shell Oil Company, as a pipefitter prior to 1949, and then had worked on construction, retiring two years ago. Mr. BEARD was a member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church; Wood River Local 553, Pipefitters Union, and Alton Local 525 Teamsters & Chauffeurs Union. He was married to the former Grace Ann RAPP, in 1912, at Raleigh, Illinois. His first wife died in 1955 and in 1960 he was married at Bethalto to the former Vivan CONION, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Gladys Irene SMITH, Wood River; Mrs. Ida Lorene FOSTER, East Alton, and Mrs. Norma Lee MAY, Edwardsville and three sons, Arthur of Alton; Edward Eugene of Wood River, and Donald R. of Alton, all children are of his first marriage: a sister, Mrs. Mae PICKELSEIMER, Eldorado; Five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Beside his first wife he was preceded in death by a daughter, Juanita, three sisters and a brother. The body is at Marks Mortuary where friends may call after 6 P.M. Tuesday. Funeral Services will be Wednesday at 1:30 P.M. in the mortuary with Rev. Clinton WOODFIN officiating. Members of Pipefitters Local 553, Wood River, will assemble at the Mortuary at 8 P.M. Tuesday to pay their respects to the memory of Mr. BEARD.
