Payton L. HURT came to Howard County, Missouri from Kentucky. Like most of the early settlers of the county from the Blue Grass state, he, too, was originally from Virginia. He first emigrated from the Old Dominion to Madison County, Kentucky and having lived there some years and hearing of the better country along the fertile banks of the Missouri, he pushed on to this county in 1819. In the mean time he had married, Miss. Jemima WINN of Kentucky.
