George MCCOY

He was 43 in 1850 living in Brown County, Illinois.

NOTES: The Lorinda McCoy who was suppose to be a wife of George McCoy who was married to Nancy Wheeler. I found in 1860 Mount Sterling Twp, Brown County, Illinois a Lorinda McCoy age 45 born in Pennsylvania with children: John McCoy age 17 born in Ohio, Josiah McCoy age 14 born in Ohio and a S. E. McCoy age 11, female, born in Illinois. George McCoy died in May of 1860 of consumption, according to the mortality schedules for that year. The census was taken on 16 June 1860 so he would have been dead by then and he could have possibly been married to Lorinda, but I can not find a marriage date anywhere in Illinois for them.

NOTES: George McCoy died "on or about 1 July 1860." "His only son, Alexander McCoy, Jr. died about 28 September 1866." George also left a widow, Lorinda McCoy listed as "step-mother" of Alexander McCoy, Jr. Lorinda got her dowers right and some land was left to Alexander. (This info was received from John McCoy in September 2004)

Nancy WHEELER

She was 29 in 1850.

NOTES: Nancy Wheeler McCoy age 29, born in Kentucky is still living on the 7 Sep 1850 census with her husband George McCoy. However, why are her two children Alexander and Sidney McCoy living with her sister Minerva Wheeler Draper on the next page of the census record? Was she sick or pregnant and died shortly afterwards or did George just listed her because she had just barely died?

Alexander MCCOY

He was 3 in 1850 living with his Aunt, Minerva Wheeler Draper.

I can not find him in 1860.

NOTES: In 1866, a single man named Alexander McCoy died and left a very small estate. The estate packet lists a number of heirs-at-law. Half of them were children of Alexander McCOY (the one from Ireland), the other half are WHEELER's.

Heirs listed: McCOY, Samuel (uncle), McCOY, Alexander Sr. (uncle), SMITH McCOY, Mary, Mrs. John (aunt), PERRY McCOY, Eliza J., Mrs. Luke, Sr. (aunt), ALEXANDER McCOY, Sarah, Mrs. Isaiah (aunt)
