John Walter GREEN born 19 Jan 1857, white, male, alive, near Conant's Mill, father Ebenezer G. GREEN and mother Jane E. HOOF.
He was 13 in 1870.
He was 23 in 1880, single, living with his parents.
He ran a grocery story in Sturgis, Kentucky for awhile according to some family sources.
NOTES: I could find no marriages for a John W. GREEN or any John GREEN in Livingston County except for the following man. I found at the Livingston County, Kentucky Courthouse a marriage for a Rev. J. W. GREEN to a Miss Emma HOLLAND on 5 Dec 1895 at Smithland. It was in the index for white marriages but I could not find it on any page. When I checked the negroes and mulatto book I found the license. However, I can not find any record of this couple anywhere on the 1900 census of Livingston County or the surrounding area. There are only 2 Holland's families in Livingston County in 1880 and they are all black. Is this really John Walter GREEN or some other J. W. GREEN???? I also checked for marriages in Crittenden and Union Counties too see if maybe he got married in an adjoining county, but again found no J. W. or John GREEN's. I have also looked at the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index to see if maybe he went across the river to marry, but again nothing. Was John GREEN ever married to either E. D. MITCHELL or Almer SMITH and are they the same man????
She was 8 in 1880.
NOTES: Almer may have died shortly after the birth of her daughter Cora. She is reputed to have died from eating fish and drinking milk according to some family stories.
He was 8 in 1920.
He was 18 in 1930 and working as a farm laborer.

NOTES: Can not find an Ebenezer GREEN in 1860, but there is a James M. GREEN living at Bell's Mine in Crittenden County who is 31 years old born in New York. This could possibly be a brother to Ebenezer. I did find the following GREEN family in 1860 in Livingston County who might be who we are looking for. His age stays right on target from 1860 to 1880, except in 1860 he is listed as Zebidee instead of Ebenezer and his wife is listed as Sarah instead of Jane and they both are born in Indiana. They do have a son and daughter named John and Mary who are really close to the right ages for the two they have by that name in 1870. Also the same families in 1860 who are living by Zebidee, are living by Ebenezer again in 1870.
