MILITARY RECORDS: He was in the Mexican War and served as a private in Company B, 1st Regiment Illinois Volunteers. The company was commanded by Captain John M. Cunningham and the 1st was commanded by Colonel E. W. B. Newby. He entered the service on 28 May 1847 in Alton, Illinois and died in Santa Fe, New Mexico from an attack of the fever. (Old War WC-4863 file #29203; Old War MC-2084 file #12000 Illinois Mexican War Service.) His wife Elizabeth applied for a pension 30 May 1848 and her parents David and Nancy Buckner were witnesses.
