NEWSPAPER: Liberty Tribune 2 July 1886: (Book extractions of newspaper #977.816 D28h) Liberty - Death of Mrs. Dinah Ayres Allen. (Long Account) Death at the residence of her son Eugene B. Allen in Leavenworth on the 25th ult. Born 19 Feb 1803 in Estill County, Kentucky daughter of the late General Stephen Trigg of Howard County, Missouri and granddaughter of Major John Trigg, an officer under Washington. She was a second cousin of Major Trigg who was killed in 1782 at the Battle of Blue Lick. Her mother was a Clark and sister of Governor James Clark of Kentucky. The Trigg family settled in Virginia in 1710, emigrated from Wales, but having originated in Cornwall, England. The Clark family settled in Virginia prior to the coming of the Trigg family. These families were connected by marriage or blood with the Moorman, Ayres, Preston, Henderson & Johns families of Virginia. General Stephen Trigg emigrated from Bedford County, Virginia to Kentucky in 1794. In the fall of 1818 to Howard County, Missouri bringing his family with him, including the subject of this sketch. On the 19th day of Sept 1822, she was married to the late Colonel Shubel Allen of this county. Her husband died 18 Jan 1841. She was the mother of 8 children of whom one, Augusta Evans Allen died at the age of five, and another, Shubel Allen, Jr. died at the age of 23. Her surviving children are Trigg T., Dr. John M., and D. C. Allen all of Liberty. Eugene B. Allen of Leavenworth, R. E. Allen of Rich Hill, MO, and Mrs. Elizabeth B. Dyer of Savannah, GA, widow of the late General Alex. B. Dyer, U.S.A. She was a sister of Mrs. Elizabeth Thornton, widow of the late Col. John Thornton.

NEWSPAPER: Liberty Tribune 26 August 1887: (Book extractions of newspaper #977.816 D28h) Will of General A. W. Doniphan - Appoints Dr. John M. Allen & J. M. Sandusky of Liberty his executors. Buried in New Cemetery in LIberty with deceased wife and children. Releases nephew John Doniphan from debts incurred 20 years ago. C. T. Garner, Sr. borrowed money from him and executed notes. They are cancelled. Also, other notes on others. Leaves bequests to friends Alexander Proctor, Wm. B. Hudgins & wife, Geo. W. Wymore (for naming a son for him). Portion of estate to wife's sisters, Fannie A. Doniphan and Theo. T. Lawson. A portion to Mary Ann Shawhan, only child of his sister Matilda, residing in Cynthiana, KY, and to his niece Jennie Hockaday, daughter of his nephew Newton Hockaday, late of Plattsburg. Library to John & Fanny Doniphan.
