BEARD, George age 4/12, male, ILMILITARY RECORDS: William BEARD, enlisted 14 Aug 1862 as a Private in Company I, 131st Illinois Infantry from Hamilton County serving in the Union Army during the Civil War. He was mustered in on 13 Nov 1862. According to the Regimental History for the 131st Infantry, only 1 officer died of disease or accident, 11 enlisted men were killed or mortality wounded and almost 100 men either died of the measles in November of 1862 or were discharged because of disability from the effects of the measles. He either was killed or died of disease during the war, as his wife Catherine filed for a widow's pension on 10 June 1863. I believe he was probably part of the men at Fort Massac that died of the measles in November of 1862, while in training or were released and probably died after going back home.
