BAIRD

NOTES: From family stories handed down our Baird family came from County Antrim, Ireland in the 1770's. The 4 children listed for Mr. Baird, Adam, Robert, William and Hugh may are may not be actual brothers but possibly cousins. I believe they may be related in some way. Will need further research to find out for sure. DNA results of October 2004 show that David Baird born ca. 1743 died in 1786 was not related to these men, but he did live in Abbeville County, South Carolina where these men lived.

NOTES: Our family of BAIRD/BEARD's may have come on some of these ships that I found records for. There are some BAIRD/BEARD's on all of these ships: In December of 1772, five ships carrying 1,000 settlers from Ireland (with Pastor William Martin) arrived at Charleston, South Carolina. Of the five ships, we have been able to ascertain only four names: The Lord Dunluce, Captain James Gillis (or Gilles) from Larne; The Hopewell, Captain Martin from Belfast; The Pennsylvania Farmer, Captain Robeson from Belfast; The Freemason, Captain Semple from Newry. Many of the passengers were members of a Presbyterian Church (Ballymoney Congregation), pastored by William Martin, around the Belfast area who had decided that they must leave their homeland if they were to worship in peace.

Robert BAIRD

NOTES: Very little is known about him. He was a juror in 1783 in Camden District, South Carolina and appeared with William Baird in some land records in Lancaster County. The Mary and Rebecca Baird who witnessed the deed mentioned with William Baird may have been members of his family. Maybe a wife and daughter.
