COURT RECORDS: Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, Court of Common Pleas, 1779, C260; R260, pg. 79: "David Stevenson, an orphan, aged 15 years, bound to Robert McDowell to learn the wheel wright trade. The master agrees to give his said apprentice a horse, saddle and briddle worth 13 pounds AD 1773, and lawful dues."

He served during the Revolutionary War.

His name is sometimes found as Stephenson.
