Robert HUGHEY

He was a British soldier of the Revolutionary War who was captured by the Americans and stayed in the United States. He was drafted as a soldier under Sir Henry Clinton, and he was in Colonel Tarleton's command at the battle of Cowpens, were he was captured 17 January 1781. He choose to stay in America. He and three of his sons fought in the War of 1812.

James Henry YATES

He was 13 in 1850 and the census said he was born in Christian County, Kentucky.

He was 23 on 26 July 1860, married, listed as Samuel H., living in New Madrid County, Missouri page #93. He is also listed as age 23 on 20 June 1860, apparently single, listed as James H., living with his parents in Lyon County, Kentucky. What gives with the two different names???? There is a young man named Samuel H. listed right before him on the census in Missouri. Maybe the census taker just wrote Samuel H. again without thinking.

He was 33 in 1870, listed as James H., living in Dist #1, Lyon County, Kentucky.

DEATH RECORDS: Interestingly, James Henry Yate's former son-law, William Henry McCollum gave the info on his death. Cert. #750695, I can't quite make out the file # I think it is 157993. Date of birth 13 Nov 1836, age 77 yrs. 4 months. Trade: Mechanic. Birthplace: Lyon Co., Ky. Father: Mat Yates- it says birth place Lyon Co.( I know it was Va.) Mother's maiden name: Elsia Hays, birth place Christian Co., Ky. Place of death county: Lyon County, Ky. Voting Pct. west Kuttawa. Registration Dist. #711, Primary Reg. Dist. #6745, Date of death: 11 Mar 1914, Doctor stated: I attended the deceased from one visit 11 Mar 1914 & last saw him alive on 11 Mar 1914. Death occurred at 11:45 pm. Cause: Valvular lesion with cardiac ? - Can't read his spelling dypetrophy? Duration: 10 yrs. signed by: C H. L-- can't read it- (doctors!) 12 Mar 1914, Kuttawa, Ky. Place of burial: Chandler Cemetery(Chestnut Oak), Lyon Co., Ky. Date of burial: 13 Mar 1914, Undertaker: Samuel Glenn, address Kuttawa. Filed 10 Apr 1914. W. A. Sexton, registrar.
