Alexander (made his X) BEARD to Huldah FORD, married 21 Feb 1838 by William Pippin a Justice of the Peace. Bond dated 19 Feb 1838 and bondsman was Cutchings COUNCIL. Alexander BEARD of lawful age and Huldah FORD daughter of Lucy FORD whose consent was proven by Cutching COUNCIL dated 20 Feb 1838. "Mr. James A. DELLEM pleas to let Alexander BEAIRD have his lisons." signed Lusy (made her X) FORD, witnessed by John F. BEAIRD.

She was 25 in 1850 and was listed as Matilda.

She was 37 in 1860 and was listed as Huldah.

She was 52 in 1870 and was listed as Huldah, and they lived next door to Anthony Franklin and his wife.

She was 58 in 1880 and was listed as Huldah.

John FORD

MARRIAGE RECORDS: Harrison County, Virginia
John Woodyard made an oath that Lucy is upwards of 21 years of age. The marriage record also says that John and Lucy are of full age. Lewis Woodyard, Lucy's brother-in-law Lewis Woodyard was the bondsman with John Ford for the marriage.

NOTES: He died in 1828 and in the settlement of his estate, the following infant heirs were named: Elias, over the age of 14 years, Cynthia, has estate sufficient for support, Jackson, Artheny, Sally and Mahulda.


Lucy FORD

MARRIAGE RECORDS: Harrison County, Virginia
John Woodyard made an oath that Lucy is upwards of 21 years of age. The marriage record also says that John and Lucy are of full age. Lewis Woodyard, Lucy's brother-in-law Lewis Woodyard was the bondsman with John Ford for the marriage.

COURT RECORDS: In the settlement of her father's estate in 1839 it states that Lucy and her brother William and sisters Anna and Cynthia many years ago perhaps 15 years ago left for the Western Country and have not been heard from in 10 years or upwards. All the rest of Lucy's brothers and sisters still live in Harrison and Monongalia Counties in Virginia.


James SISCO

This is to certify that on the 6th day of Jan 1859, the rites of marriage were legally solemized between James Cisco and Julia A. Beard at residence of A.(Alexander) Beard, in the county of Crittenden, in the presence of A. Beard--John Yates--Thomas Yates--Jane Beard and others. James was 24 years old, and was born in Jackson County, Tennessee, Julia was 17 and born in Kentucky.

He was 25 in 1860.

James may have been killed during the Civil War.

His wife Julia remarried to George B. Clark in 1865.

DAVIDSON of Levias, besides whom she was the mother of Dorsey CLARK of this city, Marion CLARK of Sikeston, Missouri, and Hughey SISCO of this city. The funeral arrangements were not made until the arrival of her son Marion from Sikeston, Wednesday morning, interment Wednesday afternoon at the new cemetery. Rev. T. C. CARTER officiating. Newspaper - July 13, 1911 - Mrs. Mollie POWELL of Evansville, Indiana was here to attend the burial of her sister, Mrs. Julie CLARK. Mrs. J. M. ALLISON of Levias, Mrs. Oscar TURNER of Crabbe Orchard, Illinois, Mrs. Claude CHAMPION of Marion were here to attend the burial of their mother, Mrs. Julia CLARK Wednesday morning. In 1910, she is living with her daughter Mary and her husband Jesse Watson, she says she is the mother of 6 children but only 4 are still living.

NOTES: For years everyone has thought that Susan and Francis were the children of Alexander Beard and Huldah Ford. However, I now know that they were instead the children of William Beard and Lucinda Gullic. William was a brother to Alexander. They were not on the 1850 census with Alexander and it made more since for them to be William's children, since they are always with their grandmother Catherine until they get married.

He says they have been married for 35 years and he farms. There is a Harriett Todd living with them but it does not give a relationship she is 62 years old and a widow born in KY.

NOTES: 222 1/2 acres were deeded to Francis Marion Beard on 15 February 1890, on the stipulation that Francis Marion would take care of Hugh and Nancy in there old age.

NEWSPAPER: Crittenden Press Obituary 13 June 1924
It says his wife and one son William B. preceeded him in death. He is survived by his son Francis Jr., one sister and one granddaughter. He joined the Union Church in 1879.

She was 24 in 1870, but is listed after Francis and his mother Margaret age 70, then Nancy and then Lucy Knight age 26, who looks to be a sister to Francis.

She was 34 in 1880, single, living in the home of John and Adaline Grisham in Gordonsville, Logan, Kentucky. Francis' mother Margaret age 77, is also living in this home and she is listed as the mother-in-law and Nancy is listed as the sister-in-law.

William HARNESS, who will be eighty one years old on August 15, is one of the few veterans of the War Between the States now living in Marion. Mr. HARNESS served in the Union Army for two years, part of the time in the 136th Illinois Regiment and the remainder of the time in the 17th Kentucky Regiment. Altho he was born in White County, Tennessee Mr. HARNESS has been a resident of this county for over seventy-five years, having been brought here by his parents when he was a very small child. During most of his life he has made his home in the northwestern part of the county, but for the past seven or eight years he and Mrs. HARNESS have been living in Marion. Mr. HARNESS remembers that when he first knew Marion the total population of the town was about fifty people. One of the stores at the time, he says was kept by the late David Woods. The present court house was built when Mr. HARNESS was a young man and he was employed as one of the workmen during its construction. Mr. HARNESS has five living children, 24 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. The oldest great-grandchild is ten years old. His two sons, Odie and Fred HARNESS, live in Crittenden County, a daughter Mrs. Ada BUTLER, lives in Marion, and two daughters, Mrs. Harrison HURLEY and Mrs. Ed PICKENS, live in Union County. The oldest son, Earl HARNESS, died a number of years ago.
