Baldenburg Synagoge/Synagogue
It is truly difficult to research the synagogues of County
Schlochau. There were five, one in each city. All were destroyed on
Kristallnacht in 1938. A letter to the Jewish Central Archive in
Berlin revealed to me that they have about the same information that
I have, and no photos. The location was on Fliesstrasse. The Jewish
community had:
83 members in 1885
58 members in 1913
40 members in 1930
This synagogue also served the community of Floetenstein. Had this
synagogue not been destroyed in 1938, it may well have burned in the
fires the Soviets set in the town center in 1945. One can see the
depressions of old roads in the park where the synagogue once stood.
No photos of the interior of any of Schlochau’s synagogues have yet
been found. There is a good chance that this Synagogue was built
after the town burned the night of April 19-20, 1765.
Es ist wirklich schwierig, die Synagogen im Kreis Schlochau zu
erforschen. Es gab fünf, eine in jeder Stadt. Alle wurden in der
Reichskristallnacht im Jahr 1938 durch Brand zerstört. Ein Brief vom
jüdischen Zentralen Archiv in Berlin enthüllte mir gegenüber, dass
sie die gleichen Informationen haben, die ich habe, aber keine
Fotos. Ihr Standort war auf Fließstraße. Die jüdische Gemeinde hatte:

58 Mitglieder in 1913
40 Mitglieder in 1930
Diese Synagoge diente auch der Gemeinde Floetenstein. Wäre diese
Synagoge im Jahr 1938 nicht zerstört worden, dann wäre sie
vielleicht in den Feuern der Sowjets im Stadt-Zentrum im Jahr 1945
verbrannt. Man kann die Abdrücke alter Straßen im Park sehen, wo die
Synagoge einst stand. Kein Foto vom Inneren irgendeiner der
Schlochauer Synagogen ist bisher gefunden worden. Es ist gut
möglich, daß diese Synagoge nach dem Stadtbrand vom 19. zum 20.
April 1765 erbaut wurde.
