I've been researching my family history since
1971. I'm interested in researching all my direct ancestors and their
descendants. My particular areas of interest are:
1. Rheinhessen - an area of 531 square miles on the west bank of the Rhine, ceded to the Grand Duchy of Hessen-Darmstadt in 1816. Rheinhessen is now part of the Land of Rheinland-Pfalz. My Kleist and Raeder ancestors immigrated to America from this area.2. Moravians of North Carolina. I'm descended from several Moravian families, including the Spach, Ebert, and Rominger families of Wachovia. Right now I'm concentrating on the family of Adam Spach (1720-1801) and Maria Elisabetha Hütter (1731-1799), including their ancestors in Alsace and Württemberg. I'm the owner and moderator of the spach-spaugh mailing list at Yahoo Groups; see the list's home page at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/spach-spaugh.
3. The Blue Ridge Mountain area of Western North Carolina and East Tennessee. I'm the Mitchell County coordinator for the North Carolina GenWeb Project. I'm also very interested in my Irish and Native ancestry, but haven't yet learned the skills necessary for researching it. My Native ancestry, thought to be Cherokee (Tsalagi), is still undocumented. Currently, most of my research is in the Kirchenbücher of various German and Alsatian parishes.
