Kate wrote (jan 2008)"Ezekiel was in the 13th Hussars and I obtained some
information about the regiment's movements. Obviously I don't know when he
joined up but early in 1861 the regiment travelled to Manchester. In November
1861, Ezekiel married Ann at Manchester Cathedral and in May 1862 the regiment
transferred to Aldershot - where presumably Philippa Harriet was born. In
summer 1864 the regiment moved again to Hounslow (where Mary Emily Paveley was
born) and then in 1865 it was split and sent to Ipswich, Northampton and
Norwich - and then again to Birmingham, Newcastle and York.
In 1866, (presuming that he was still with the regiment) the 13th Hussars were
sent to Canada and stayed there until 1869. Ordinary soldiers could not afford
to take their families with them and so Ann and the girls would have stayed in
England. It may be after this period that the he lost touch with them or chose
to abscond but he doesn't turn up again until the 1881 census (and had married
Bertha Price in 1880)."
