Josef Fischl, his brother Ernst and his cousin Alfred Brown were the only
partners in the firm M Fischl & Sons, distillers and refiners of alcohol and
makers of potash and other chemicals, sharing equally. They were displaced in
March 1939 by the Nazi regime, which appointed an administrator. After the war,
the business was placed under national administration and then nationalised.

Ernst Fischl leitete gemeinsam mit seinem Bruder Josef die Spiritus- und
Hefefabrik Fischl in Limmersach bei Klagenfurt. Nach der "Reichskristallnacht"
im November 1938 flüchtete er nach Bratislava in die Tschechoslowakei. Die
Fabrik wurde arisiert. Nach dem Einmarsch der Deutschen Wehrmacht in die
Tschechoslowakei gab es keine Möglichkeit mehr zur Flucht. Am 3. August 1942
wurde er in das KZ Theresienstadt deportiert, wo er zwei Jahre später zu Tode
kam.
