Joseph Thornton often used his middle name, Thomas. He served
as a private in the 13th Pennsylvania Infantry during the Spanish-American
war. He served from June 1898 to March 1899.
Obituary
Joseph T. Thornton, 217 West Drinker Street, Dunmore,
died in his home on Monday afternoon. He was 56 years of age and was a
member of Dunmore Presbyterian church, Scranton Aerie of Eagles and the
Neptune Hose Company. Besides his widow, Mr. Thornton is survived by a
son, Hall; two daughters, Mrs. Peter
Manley and Miss Barbara Thornton; a sister, Mrs. Delmer Belknapp;
a brother, Allison Thornton, and seven grandchildren. The funeral will
be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o’clock with services in the
late home. Interment will be in Dunmore cemetery.
