Funeral services for John KOVARNA, 83, were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15, at Heaton - Westscott Funeral home in Sioux City, Rev. R. E. OUTHUESDEN officiated. Burial was in Liberty township cemetery. He died Nov. 12 at a Sioux City Bursing home.
He was born Jan. 22, 1888, in Plymouth county and was a life long resident and farmer of the county. He married Olive MAXEY, APril 10, 1912, in Sioux City.
Survivors are the wife, three daughters, Mrs. Carl ( Ella ) FRERICHS of Allen , Neb., Mrs. Cecil ( Doris ) STIZMANN of Kingsley and Mrs. Clarence ( Donna ) MILLER of Sioux City; three sons, Lester, Charles and Howard; four brothers, James, George, Adolph and ?arry, a sister, Mrs. John HARTMAN of Sioux City, 17 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren. Harry KOVARNA, 69, a long time Perry township resident, died Monday afternoon at a Sioux City hospital, following a lingering illness. Mr. KOVARNA was born June 27, 1902 in Sioux City. He married the former Louise ANDERSN, Nov. 29, 1932 at Omaha. The couple farmed in the Plymouth county area near HInton for many years. Survivors include the widow, three brothers, Adolph, James, and George, and a sister, Mrs. John HARTMAN of Sioux City. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Heaton Westcott Funeral home in Sioux City. Rev. Walden PALGE, pastor of the Hinton United Methodist Church officiated. Merril - George KOVARNA, 77, rural Merrill, died Aug. 22 at a Sioux City hospital after a breif illness. Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, at Meyer Bros. Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Dr. Martin G. STUCK of Central Baptist church officiated. Burial was in Liberty Township cemetery. Mr. KOVARNA was born Nov. 1, 1898 on the family homestead in Plymouth county. He married Helen J. KLOUCEK June 24, 1942 in Dakota City. They farmed in Plymouth county until he retired in 1971. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and a former member of the Liberty Township school board. Survivors include the widow; a son, Richard of Merrill; three daughters, Mrs. Ted ( Gladys ) JAHN of Moville, Mrs. LaVerl ( Josephine ) ERICSON or Sioux City and Mrs. Cliff ( Darlene ) KELLISON of Lemon Grove, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. John ( Helen ) HARTMAN of Sioux City; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. 1976 Charles L. Funeral for Charles L. KOVARNA, 58, of Hinton will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Meyer Bros. Colonial Chapel at Sioux City. Rev. A. T. WASHINGTON ( retired ) will officiate. Burial will be in Liberty Township cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be fron 1 - 9 p.m. Thursady with the family present from 7 - 9. Mr. KOVARNA died April 30, 1986, at Sioux City Marian Health Center after a brief illness. He was born Oct. 14, 1927, at Sioux City to John and Olive MAXEY KOVARNA. He lived in Plymouth county with his parents and attended school in Perry Township. After farming for several years, he purchased the Sloan Drive - In theater in March 1984, and operated that business until November 1985. Survivors are two brothers, Lester of Hinton and Howard of Merrill; three sisters, Mrs. Ella FRERICHS of Allen, Neb., Mrs. Doris SITZMAN of LeMars, and Mrs. Donna MILLER of Sioux City. He was preceeded in death by his parents and a sister, Marjorie. 1986
