First found in Devonshire where they were anciently seated in Exeter.

Some of the first settlers of this name or some of its variants were: John and Richard Tucker who settled in St. John's, Newfoundland in 1676, they were from Teignmouth in Devon, along with many more settlers in Newfoundland; John Tucker explored the rivers of Maine in 1602, eighteen years before the "Mayflower"; Daniel Tucker settled in Virginia in 1607; followed by William and others.
