Lapford

Charlotte Joslin's parents, aunt and uncle lived in a small area named Filleigh outside of the village of Lapford from about the 1850's until the 1880's.  This area called Filleigh is not in the Parish of Filleigh (we visited that later in the day).

While living in the Lapford area, Charlotte's parents Robert Bird Joslin and his wife Mary Ann Adams attended religious services at Lapford Chapel. In the 19th century, the Chapel was affiliated with the Methodist Church.

Lapford Chapel

According to the 1851 Census, Robert Bird Joslin's sister Charlotte and her husband Samuel Cole were living on Lower Filleigh Farm outside of Lapford. Living with them were Charlotte's brothers William and George. This is how Lower Filleigh Farm looks today.

Filleigh Moor Farm

In 1861, Robert Bird Joslin and his wife Mary Ann lived at Filleigh Moor Farm outside of Lapford. At that time, he farmed 30 acres of land. Filleigh Moor Farm is no longer standing. Here is the sign at Filleigh Moor - presumably the farm was nearby.
