Call and Joslin Families of Devon, England and
New York, Massachusetts, Wisconsin and Minnesota
My great-great grandparents Robert Call and Charlotte Joslin immigrated from Devon, England to the United States in 1853 and 1854. They were just two members of an extended family network who immigrated to the US between 1835 and 1901. After spending several years in Massachusetts, Robert and Charlotte Call settled in Stafford, Genesee County, New York.
Other family members who immigrated settled in Massachusetts, New York, Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota. Among the family members who immigrated were
William Paine (1800-1882) and Elizabeth Paddon (1792 -1865) who settled in Stafford, Genesee County, New York - immigrated in 1835.
John Paine Call (1817-1895) and Jane Goddard (1823-1879) who settled in Batavia, Genesee County, New York - immigrated in 1868 with 10 children.
William Call (1820 - after 1900) and Sarah who settled first in Wisconsin, then in Martin County, Minnesota - immigrated about 1858.
Alexander Cole (1828 - after 1910) who settled in Perry, Wyoming County, New York - immigrated about 1850.
Elizabeth Cole (1830 - 1909) who married William Cooper and settled in Melvin, Ford County, Illinois - immigrated about 1854.
Samuel Cole (1832 - after 1910) who settled in Perry, Wyoming County, New York - immigrated about 1854.
Elias Cole (1837 - 1906) who settled in Morganville, Genesee County, New York - immigrated in 1859.
William Joslin (1832 - 1916) and Charlotte Blackmore (1835 - 1885) who settled in Chelsea, Suffolk, Massachusetts - immigrated in 1853 and 1854.
Ann Joslin (1836 - 1918) who married William Jones and settled in Chelsea, Suffolk, Massachusetts - immigrated 1854.
George Adams Joslin (1844 - 1921) and Mary Whitford Verrin (1841- 1908) who settled in Madison, Dane County, Wisconsin - immigrated in 1881 with two children.
Robert Joslin (1846 - 1914) who lived in Batavia, Genesee County, New York, before returning to England - immigrated in 1874.
Samuel Joslin (1849 - 1913) who settled in Darien, Walworth County, Wisconsin - immigrated in 1874.
Charlotte Anna Challice (1869- 1933) who settled in Morganville, Genesee County, New York - immigrated in 1900.
Flora Elizabeth Challice (1872 - 1964) who married Samuel Radley and settled in Stafford, Genesee County, New York - immigrated in 1901.
The descendants of these families kept in close touch both with the others who immigrated, and with those who remained in England for over 100 years. In recent years, we have begun to reconnect with each other.
I'd like to thank all of the Call, Cole and Joslin relatives who have helped to put the pieces of the family history back together. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions about the information presented here.
