About the Association

The Platt Family Association was organized in Milford, Connecticut in 1981 to gather and preserve family history information regarding the Descendants of Richard Platt, born at Ware, Herts., England, and coming to Milford, CT in 1639.

Thomas Platt lived in Burlington, NJ by 1712 and was once conjectured to have been a descendant of Richard Platt of Milford, CT. Recent DNA testing on known descendants of both shows no connection.

The Association holds its annual meeting in July, generally in Milford, CT.

29th Annual Platt Family Reunion - 2010

Our joint reunion with the Botsford Family Historical Association last summer worked very well for the second time. We were able to share a meal and a speaker. As the Botsfords own a house and grounds the cost of a venue was also saved. We have not been specifically invited to join them again next summer, but I expect that this will happen. With that in mind, please put

on your calendars for next summer's reunion.

With one exception, we have always had our reunion here in Milford, as that is where Richard Platt and his wife, Mary Wood, settled when they came to America. This does not always have to be so. Several years ago we convened at Huntington, Long Island, New York, and had a successful get- together there. We could try Plattsburgh, New York, Huntington again, or some other location with Platt connections. Or no connection. But several years ago I asked if there were any interest in holding the reunion at a resort or a state park, and opinion ran heavily against this. Still, if anyone of you has a suggestion, it will be thoughtfully considered.

For more information or to submit suggestions, send an email to Richard Platt (see below).
