June Rice Baldwin Tompkins, Manchester, CT, e-mail junetompkins @juno.com, seeks parents/Platt connection of Elizabeth C Platt (some records show the name as Pratt, which is probably incorrect) who married Franklin Tobey on 12 March 1843 in Hunter, New York. Elizabeth's sister, Sarah A Platt, married Horatio S Lockwood on 26 Jul 1846.
Max Riekse, Fruitport, MI, e-mail rrtibet1 @aol.com, is still looking for the location of the sword, commission, and final resting place (grave) of Major Richard6 Platt (Richard #132-112) (1755-c3 Mar 1830). He served in the Continental Line from New York from 1775 (Canada) to the Yorktown surrender in 1781. He was an aide-de-camp and also Deputy Quartermaster-General of the Main Army under Gen George Washington at Yorktown. He most likely died in the state of New York (the Richard Platt Genealogy says New York, NY)
Carolyn Williams Skidmore of Setauket, NY, while touring, earlier this summer, the cemeter at the St. James Methodist Church in the St. James section of Smithtown, Long Island, found a gravestone that read: Platt - Arthur 1873-1959, Christina 1877-1962. Does anyone know who they were?
Lorraine McCarthy, Tucson, AZ, seeks the Platt connection of Eli Platt, b 16 April 1814 in Canada, d 7 November 1889 in Newaygo Co, MI, son of Eli Platt and Eleanor Winchell. He mar. on 20 June 1840 in Delaware Co., OH, Eliza Wood who was b 3 June 1819 in Jefferson Co., NY, and d 6 August 1889 in Newaygo Co., MI. Their children were born in Morrow Co., OH, and then they moved to Newaygo Co, MI in 1858. They had a son, Albert Platt, (1843-1898), a Civil War veteran, and a daughter Minervia Platt (1850-1931). Albert had a daughter, Nettie (1895-1984).
Paul Halliday of Sharpes, FL, e-mail launchview @aol.com, seeks parents/Platt connection of Elizabeth M Platt, b abt 1860, who mar. John H. Bowers on 14 November 1878 in New Haven, CT. Her death certificate says that she and both parents were born in New Haven, but her marriage record says that she and her husband were born in Hartford, CT. There were New Haven residents at the time of their marriage. Children: Nellie Mae, b 22 February 1884 (Paul's grandmother), Minnie, Carrie, and Grace.
Sara Platt (Mrs. Jeff W.), Gouverneur, NJ, e-mail jwplatt @usadatanet.net, seeks parents/Platt connection of Charles Henry Platt who m. Amanda Rivers. They had at least three children: Franklin Smith Platt, b 15 May 1874 in Plattsburgh, NY, d. 19 September 1965, m. Anna Laura Elliot Thomas on 2 April 1913; Lottie, m. Leslie Baxter of Brasher Falls, NY; and Ida, m. (---?) in Plattsburgh, NY. Franklin and Anna had three sons, Charles Henry Smith Platt, b 8 August 1914, d 12 October 1982; Nathaniel Arlington Platt, b 8 July 1918, d 7 July 1982; and Franklin Leslie Platt, living in WV.
Posted 11 September 2003 on NYBROOKLYN-L, an obit from the Brooklyn Daily Union, 5th January 1870: "Platt - On Tuesday, January 4, Cornelia Grace, youngest daughter of the late Mary C. and Geo. W. Platt, Jr., in the 8th year of is [sic] age." Can anyone identify this Platt family?
