James N. Platt, Jr., 8 Dennis Road, Pomfret Center, CT 06259, e-mail jplatt@snet.net, asks for any information about his great uncle, John James Platt (#W 113 in the Richard Platt 1963 book). He and his wife, Roseanne Henderson, were last known to be living in upper NY state in 1898 when both were 62 years old. They seem to have moved out of state at that time. Where did they go, and where are they buried?

An IGI record lists an Eli Platt and Eliza Woods who m. 20 June 1840 in Delaware Co., OH. This is likely correct, because they are on an 1850 census record for Bennington Twp., Morrow Co. (formerly part of Delaware Co.) OH. Their oldest child, Albert, would have been b. 1843. Other children were Eleanor, Sara Louisa, Minerva, Jonathan A., Emma, Elizabeth and Mary. The youngest was b. 1860. In the 1860 and 1870 censuses, Eli's family was residing in Croton, Newaygo Co., MI. (see Vol 19-3 )
Also on the 1850 census for Bennington Twp. were a Levi Platt and a Homer Platt. Levi was b. NY abt. 1805 and m. Elizabeth (Betsy) and had children Harvey and Nathan, but names were hard to read. They were still in Bennington in 1860 but in the household of Ebenezer Morehouse. Homer was b. CT abt. 1794, wife something like Adeline (hard to read). Children: Lyman, Harvey, Randall, John, Sarah, Samuel, Eli, and Mary. These families may nor may not have been related.

There may have been a Christopher Platt among the ancestors. Family lore also is that 4 brothers came from England and 2 returned there.
