Karen Sweet, 45 Fort Hill Ave., Shelton CT 06484, e-mail Cheyenne64@aol.com, seeks her Platt connection. Her mother, Shirley Joan Platt, was b. Norwalk, CT -- 1933, mar. Norwalk --1954 Thomas George Harrick. She was dau. of Earl Platt, b. Norwalk 17 February 1905, d. Norwalk 28 January 1982, bur. Riverside Cem., Norwalk; mar. Norwalk May 1929 Edna Blanche Wilson, b. Norwalk 11 February 1908, d. Norwalk 3 July 1994. Earl had a brother, Ernest Platt, b September 1895. Son of William Henry Platt, b. Oyster Bay, NY 3 November 1870, d Norwalk 25 December 1952. Son of Rufus Platt, b Ridgefield, CT abt 1821 (per death record), d Norwalk 27 January 1896, mar. 1/Clarissa Albin, b. abt 1834, d. Norwalk 13 May 1884, mar? 2/ Josephine -- (Sherwood) (no marriage record found), mar. 3/1890 Mrs. Emily Miller. Siblings of William Henry, per census records: Children of Clarissa: Louis Platt, b November 1855, Sarah F Platt, b. October 1857, Mary Platt, Edward Platt, Frederick Platt, Carrie Platt, Emma Platt, Charles Platt; Children of Josephine: Frank Sherwood, Jennifer Sherwood, Arthur Sherwood, Florence Platt, Bertha Platt. Karen believes that William Henry's mother was Clarissa. Rufus appears in the 1860, 1870, and 1880 census records for Norwalk with a different wife named in each one. In the 1870 census she is named Caroline, but the children named are the same as with Clarissa [Clarissa may also have been called Caroline?]. On Clarissa's death record she is named as wife of Rufus Platt. She died in 1884, but was not living with Rufus in 1880. In 1880 he was living with a wife named Josephine and none of the children named as living with Rufus in 1870 were with him in 1880. A Rufus Platt was found in the 1840 census for Ridgefield where he is supposed to have been born. He was head of household in which there were two males betw. 20-30 yrs, and one female betw. 15-20 yrs. In the 1830 there was a Samuel Platt in Ridgefield who had several children, including some sons betw. 5-15 yrs. Could this be Samuel Platt, #121-321-2? Only one son and one daughter are listed in the Charles Platt book, but information seems to be incomplete.
On a recent visit to the Unitarian Church of All Souls in New York City, we noticed a small memorial plaque on pew #12 for Edith M Platt 1907-1984. Does anyone know who she was?

I have already sent her the names and addresses of Susan Watkins of Dolgeville, NY, Nancy S Gaston of Ithaca, NY, Merlye Gaston of New York City, Gordon K Platt of Hunstville, AL, and Dave Houser of Blendive, MT. Are there any others? She would also like to correspond with anyone researching Montgomery and Herkimer Counties, NY. (Note: When Montgomery was divided, Herkimer came from it.)

years.
