Mary Ann married David C.
Chase and had a daughter [_____] who married J. H. Moore, and a son,
D. Carl Chase. Mary Ann’s nieces Mrs. Louis Granger and
Mrs. Thomas White, and granddaughters Mrs. H. V. Gates and Mrs.
V. S. Mathews, cannot be placed accurately.
Now, can anyone place this Platt family?
A posting on SIBLEY-L by Crowder563(-at-)aol.com says that his/her great
grandmother was Frances SIBLEYwho was married to Frank H. PLATT.
She apparently split with her family, possibly over the marriage. Their
daughter, Jennie Platt, was born 26 July 1880. Crowder563 says that
his/her grandmother never met her biological father and Frances (Fannie)
Sibley did not talk about him. Frances apparently was daughter of
Alexander Sibley. Does anyone know who this Frank H. Platt was?
Platt Field at Camp Sequassen, owned by the Connecticut Yankee Council, Boy
Scouts of America, was given by Mettie B. PLATT. We have found her,
apparently, in the New Haven, CT, City Directory for 1905, living on 1194
Chapel Street, and listed as widow of John H. Platt. According to the
1900 census, Mettie was born April 1862, John abt. 1844, and they
were married abt. 1883. We may find them with a little more digging, but, just
in case, does anyone know who these people were? Camp Sequassen sits astride
the Torrington/New Hartford town line in northwestern Connecticut. Also, there
is a Platt Hill State Park in nearby Winchester.
Donald J. Platt of Frankston, TX, writes that a painting by George W.
PLATT (1839-1899) was recently sold to a private collector for several
thousand dollars. The painting is entitled, “A Handful of Flowers,” and dated
1879. George W. Platt is noted for his trompel’oeil still lifes. The only
biographical information we have been able to collect on him is his dates, and
we have been unable to make a connection. Can anyone provide it?
Don Platt also writes that there is a David PLATT who is producer of the
TV show, Law and Order. Does anyone know who he is?
Nancy Wagner, email NLW1004(-at-)aol.com,seeks information on her great great
grandfather, William Griffen PLATT,who, she thinks, was in the Civil War
and possibly was killed in the War. He may have served in the War with a
William FULLER, who was found in the 1900 census in Texas living with
William Griffen Platt’s son. William Griffen Platt may have come from
the Shreveport, Louisiana, area.
Lyn Beadle, email MBeadle104(-at-)aol.com, is looking for the ancestry of
Hubbell MIDDLEBROOK and Julia PLATT, who married at Redding,
Fairfield County,CT, 5 October 1835. There is no birth record for either of
them in our statewide index to Barbour. The 1840 census for Redding shows the
family with 1 male under five...1 male 20-30...1 male 50-60...1 female under
five...1 female 10-15...1 female 20-30. The 1850 census for Sharon, Washtenaw
County, MI shows Hubbal Middlebrook age 39; Juliaage 35;
Augustus age 14; Sarah Jane age 10; John age 9;
Edward age 5; Frances H. age 1 - all born in Connecticut. The
gravestone inscription at the Sharon Town Hall cemetery at Manchester,
Washtenaw County, MI shows Hubbill M.Middlebrook b. 12 Oct 1816, d. 2 Mar.
1888; Julia M. (Platt) Middlebrook b. 18June 1811, d. 12 Aug. 1881 -
possibly these dates are reversed, since according to the 1850 census, Hubbell
was born in 1811 and Julia in 1816. The Middlebrooks genealogy shows Hubbell
Middlebrooks, son of Sylvanus and Jerusha (Hubbell)
Middlebrooks, born 12 November 1774 (Fairfield/Greenfield),and says that
he married _____Platt, had son Augustus and moved to Michigan.
This record is obviously confused, since Hubbell’s birth is a generation too soon
for this couple, but the first child of this marriage was Augustus.
Julia is not found in the Platt Genealogy, 1963. Can anyone identify
this couple?
Joe Northrop of Huntington, IN, in correspondence with us on the Northrop
family, mentioned that there was a State Police detective there in Huntington
named Sam PLATT who later became a collector for the Indiana Dept. of
Revenue. Also, there is a Steve PLATT who is the basketball coach at
Huntington College. In the 1970s he was on the cover of Sports Illustrated
because he was the country’s college basketball high scorer while at
Huntington College. Does anyone know who these Platts are?
A posting recently appeared on HOVEY-L about a Betsey Scribner HOVEY, b.
1812 in Niagara Falls, NY, daughter of Ebenezer Hovey, who married Brewster
PLATT. Their daughter, Mary Platt, b. 1842, married William GRAHAM after the
Civil War. Her brother, Hiram Hovey Platt, was killed in the War at age 24.
Can anyone identify this Platt family?
Recently seen on eBay: a cabinet photo labeled “Lady in Hat.” On the back in
pencil is written “Etta M. Platt 1907” and the photographer was G. I.
North,So. Norwalk, Ct. Can anyone identify this woman?
Also on eBay: a small painting,“Portrait of a Girl” oil on canvas. It
is signed and dated on the back, “J. C.Platt 1852.” ArtPrice lists him as a
Boston, MA, artist, James C. Platt, died 1892. Can anyone place him?
Janean Ray, [of] Akron, OH, email JRay38(-at-)neo.rr.com, is trying to find
