Vicki Harburger of San Antonio, TX has sent a copy of an article quoting Lawrence Platt, an attorney with Kirkpatrick & Lockhart in Washington, DC. Does anyone know his connection?
One of our
correspondents was watching an old movie Stagecoach, and
asked about one of the actresses, Louise Platt.
I did a little web surfing, and found that she played Lucy
Mallory, the young pregnant wife who was going to join her
husband, a cavalry officer. The movie was a classic Western,
directed by John Ford, starring John Wayne, and made in 1939,
which certainly was a great year for classics: Gone With the
Wind, Wizard of Oz, etc.
Louise Platt was born 3 August 1915 in Stamford,
CT. She was a Broadway actress and was in films only from 1938 to
1942. Her only memorable film role was in "Stagecoach".
She was the first actress to test for the part of Scarlett
O'Hara, but didn't get the part. She is now Louise Platt
Gould, a "lively and engaging" 86 year old
widow living in Southold, Long Island. Her father was a Navy
doctor and she was brought up mainly in Annapolis. She later
summered in Guilford, CT. Her first husband was Jed
Harris, a director, and the second was Stan
Gould, an actor and teacher. She has a daughter by each.
but we haven't yet been able to find her Platt family connection.

Edgar R Hartt, Hollidaysburg, PA, e-mail hartter4 @aol.com, wishes to know the maiden surname of Mary, wife of Joshua Heartt, Sr., who was b 20 November 1763, d. 27 March 1835 of Huntington South, NY (now Babylon). He ws son of Nehemiah Heartt and Mercy Lewis. Joshua, Sr. and Mary had 5 male children (and one female): William, Platt, Joshua Jr., Charles, and Ezra. Because their second son was named "Platt", could there have been a Platt connection? Was Mary a Platt?
Lloyd A Hohenstein, Brooklyn Park, MN, e-mail hohenste @tcfreenet.org, would like to correspond with others searching for Catherine Fonda, wife of George W. Platt [Richard #132-133]. Were there Fondas living in Plattsburgh according to the 1790 and 1800 census records? (see Sep 01, Vol 19, p30 )
