James McGRATH & Bridget CARLTON were married in Ireland - the family returned to Paisley, Scotland in 1841 with their daughter Anne age 2 years to say goodbye to relatives and friends as the parents of Bridget CARLTON were Scottish and lived in Paisley.

They joined up with Bridget's brother James CARLTON and his newly wed wife Ellen BAINES to sail for Australia.

They sailed 1841 from Greenock on the Firth of Clyde, Scotland on the ship "Percy" - they arrived 28 August 1841 - and proceeded south by Cobb & Co coach to Yass, NSW where they worked on a large property "Hadwick" on the banks of the Yass river.

The name Hadwick can still be seen as you drive along the Hume Highway not far from the turn off to Canberra a few miles along the Goulburn Road - The GROSVENOR's were the first white settlers in the Yass area - it was Cornelius O'BRIEN who had originally purchased the Hadwick estate in Yass, NSW.
