Colley Family

Thomas COLLEY married Rhonda. They had a son who was also named Thomas COLLEY. Their son Thomas, was a Baptist Minister. The elder Thomas later married Judith FIELDS. They had a son named Richard COLLEY.

Richard COLLEY was the first permanent settler in the area that was later to be known as Sandlick. He was born about 1793. He married Christina "Crissa" COUNTS. Richard Colley later earned the name "Fighting Dick" Colley. Richard and Crissa had seven children.

  1. Mary Anne born September 4, 1816. She married David Widener DEEL.

  2. Sarah born about 1829. She married John M. Preston MULLINS.

  3. Margaret Jane born 1827. She first married Ephriam PRESSLEY who died in 1848. She married Jacob FULLER on October 25, 1849. Margaret Jane died June 28, 1900.

  4. James born March 1, 1815. He married Emma FERRILL. James died August 2, 1887.

  5. John born 1820 and died 1895. He married Annie DAVIS.

  6. Matilda born 1822 and died 1899. She married Charles ANDERSON.

  7. Joshua born in 1825 and died March 11, 1897. He married Didame MULLINS.

 

Sarah COLLEY was born about 1829 and died November 11, 1877. She married John M. Preston MULLINS. They had six children.

  2. Mary "Polly" born about 1850.

  3. James P. born March 4, 1852.

  4. Richard

  5. John A. born November 25, 1857.

  6. Sylvia

  7. James Harvey COLLEY born November 1840. He was living with Richard and Crissa COLLEY in the 1850 census and listed as a grandson. On this census, he was listed as Harvey Ramey. Later he lived with Sarah and John Mullins. According to the marriage application, he was named James Harvey Colley and his mother was Delilah Ramey. I have not been able to ascertain who his father was.

 

James Harvey COLLEY born in 1840 married Elizabeth POWERS. Her parents were John POWERS and Sarah LEECE. They had the following children.

  1. Calvin who married Susan MOORE.

  2. John Floyd who married Pernetta MULLINS

  3. Tivis

 

Calvin COLLEY and Susan MOORE had five children. Susan's father was Isaac MOORE. The children were:

  1. James Harvey who married Polly EDWARDS

  2. Eliza Jane who married Silas HALL

  3. Emma who married Christopher Columbus HAY

  4. Caudill who married Phoebe WILLIS

  5. Ida who married Rufus WILLIS and then Ephriam CHARLES.
