Ancestral File is a part of FamilySearch.org. The directions for doing a search are very clear. You need not fill in all of the fields. When you find material, it may be downloaded in the form of GEDCOM file.

Ancestry.com Ancestry claims to have over 1,000,000,000 names in their data bases and are adding more every week. This is a commercial website, but some very worthwhile is available free of charge. The Ancestry World Tree is collection of pedigree files submitted by users of Ancestry. As of this writing the Ancestry World Tree contains 87, 144, 444 names. Some of the pedigree files contain only a few hundred names and others 1000's. This file is free, but the use of other Ancestry data bases may require that you become a subscriber.

Family Tree Maker is now a part of Genealogy.com. This link takes you to the Family Finder search page. You need only provide the surname, but filling other fields will refine your search. This is a commercial genealogy site, but you will find a lot of free material.

Kindred Konnections This link takes you My Trees.com which is a Kindred Konnections website. The site is commercial, but some material may be used without charge. Use the FREE LOGIN requires you to get an account # and password with no charge. You may then look at what is available and make an informed decision about joining.

Pedigree Resource File The PRF is provided by FamilySearch.org. You may search the file to see what names are there and look at the individual information about each person, however the family/pedigree information is available only on CD's.
