Obituary Russell W. Faus
CLEARFIELD, Utah - Russell W. Faus, retired
regional engineer for the Bureau of Reclamation in Billings, died March 6,
2000, in Clearfield of pneumonia. He was 88.
Born on a homestead near Ismay (Joe), on July 31,
1911, he was one of eight children of Walter J. and Anna Steen Faus. He
married Barbra Lee Crow in Miles City, on Jan. 10, 1937, and they had more
than 50 years together. She died in 1989.
He graduated from Terry High School and attended
Montana State College for four quarters until the realities of the
Depression forced him to quit. Before joining the Bureau, he supervised
infrastructure and small dam work for the Works Projects Administration (WPA),
worked on an Alaskan Railway construction crew and on B-17 parts
fabrication at Boeing Aircraft, and managed a hardware store in Terry. He
worked for the bureau at Heart Mountain, Powell and Worland, Wyo.; Huron,
S.D.; and Glendive before moving to Billings in 1961. He was a member of
the American Society of Civil Engineers, Elks, and NARFE.
After his retirement, he spent about half the
year at the cabin he and his wife built on the Clark's Fork River in
Wyoming. He was an avid fly fisherman who tied his own flies and patiently
taught his beloved granddaughters how to fish.
He also enjoyed
woodworking, bowling and traveling.
He is survived by a daughter, Sandra (Paul)
Perkin of Fruit Heights, Utah; two brothers, Warren of Belvedere, Calif.,
and Jack of Kent, Wash.; three granddaughters, Mia (Marty) Oramous of
Hendersonville, N.C., Dr. Erin B. Perkin of Arlington, Va., and Jahnna
(Dennis) Bythewood of San Pedro, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m.
Saturday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Billings. In lieu of flowers, the
family suggests donations to the American Diabetes Association or the
Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch.
