Much has been written about the Southern Pickens family. There have also been many well know researchers with that particular branch of the family as well. However, there has been very little written about the New England Pickens family line. Day only briefly mentions Thomas and his wife, but not much else. There have been however researchers that have developed the New England line. Louise Pickens Tanner and James Pickens.
LOUISE PICKENS TANNER,was the earliest of the New England line researchers she started to the best of my knowledge about 1920 and collected information throught out New England and New York to tie her family in with Thomas Picken of Massachusette. It was fortunate that my father and Jim Pickens corresponded with her in the late 60's and early 70's. Her letters are of much interest and contain various bits and peices of information. In the early 70's she sent my father(Sidney Pickens) and Jim Pickens her family group sheets. Her group sheets comprise about 180 pages of family information. It is index in a way. She started at the beginning and each successive child was given a number. Her index and her family group sheets are available for viewing at New England Archives. Her letters can be found at Letters. With her notes available at Louise's Notes (not yet available.
JAMES PICKENS, was born and raised in New York. He was a professor at Ithica's Cornell College in New York. His passion was to find the connection of his Pickens family's ancestors with any of the lines. He combed the records in New York state, Syracuse library, and countless courthouses and cemetery to try and find that nebulus connection. He never did live to see the connection of this Davis Pickens to the New England lines. His notes can be found at Jim's notes.
In the late 60s and early 70s Lois Pickens Tanner, James Pickens, and Sidney Pickens carried on a lengthy letter writting campaign between them. Sharing what information each had. Even though the correspondence last almost 10 years none of them every was able to make the connection that they all were looking for. James'd David and Experience were sitting right under his nose. Sidney still hasn't found the connection to his line of Pickens. Jim's letters can be found by clicking on Letters. Jim also published a book of his family sheets simple called "PICKENS. There are only 6 copies of the book. His family has a copy. I have one there is one at the Syracuse Library in Syracuse NY. The other 3 copies I have no idea where they are.
