I made a Jan. 3rd trip to the Butler County Courthouse and found a marriage license for W. L. Harwell (Webster Levi ) and Alice H. Pickens given 15th of May 1889 and then listed them married at the Home of Mrs. Pickens on the 19th day of May 1889 by Anselm A. Easley.

I also got a copy of the Pickens family bible page from my second cousin when I went to Greenville on Jan. 3rd.  It is very hard to read and was hard to copy because it was black photocopy paper with white print, I think a very poor copy made in the 60's or even earlier. I scanned it for you but I'm not good at scanning.  I hope you can read it.

Aunt Ruth Harwell Mixon had that poor copy of the family bible and her bible, possibly the Pickens family bible.  My second cousin Emma Jean Roberson in Greenville says she may still have Aunt Ruth's bible in the bottom of her cedar chest.  I asked her when she has time to look and see.  Will let you know if she finds it.

I am hoping to go to Greenville during my children's Christmas break and do research at the Butler County Courthouse, the Greenville Advocate and the historical society.  If I turn up more info I will be happy to pass it along.

We are going to get a computer scanner.  When we do, I will scan and send to you a photo of Hannah Alice Pickens and her husband Webster Levi Harwell.

Hi John.  Just home today from vacation to Destin, FL and had your message.  On the way home I got to stop over in Montgomery at the Alabama Archives and History and do some research.
When we got to Montgomery I checked with the Alabama Archives and History department and they were open until 5 pm.  It is like getting into Ft. Knox to do research there...I had to sign in, get a badge, put my purse in a locker, and then to look at microfilm I had to fill out a form, show my driver's license, get a number on a card and THEN I could request a microfilm!  I don't know where you live, but they do have a lot of great information.
I also got to see the Pickens Family book "Cousin Monroe's History of the Pickens Family", copyright 1951.  Is this is book you cited in your John C. Pickens material?  If not, I can type in for you my notes from the book.   I also saw a poor photocopy of a Pickens family bible, possibly John Andrew Pickens, in the possession of Emma Lou Harwell's daughter Emma Jean Roberson who lives in Greenville.  I need to call Emma Lou and get the details of this photocopy and ask who has the bible.   These are the dates I could see for sure
Hannah Alice Pickens born April 8th, 1861

Mary Ida Pickens born Sept. 16, 1859

Ruth Elizabeth Harwell (a daughter of Hannah Alice Pickens and Webster Levi Harwell, sister to my great grandmother Lillie Dhu Harwell, and great aunt Emma Lou Reeves) 1892

John Andrew Pickens June 18, 1834 married Lizzie Zeigler born 9-16-1837

Isabella Pickens born June 20, 1821

John C. Pickens born November 22,  year possibly 1749?

Is there any of this family of Pickens relation to Fort Pickens in Alabama?

Writing to you about my great, great grandmother Hannah Alice Pickens, who married Webster Levi Harwell and had three girls and one boy.  My great grandmother was Lillie Dhu Harwell Mixon.  I have birth and death dates for Hannah Alice, and Webster Levi, and my great grandmother and her family, but don't have the Harwell marriage date.  Do you have that?
