It is believed that Joseph was born in Detroit as that is where his parents moved to and that is where his father Joseph Francois died and was buried (just 3 months, 20 days before Joseph's birth), and Joseph's mother remarried there later that year. Joseph was raised by his mother and stepfather Pierre Estave until at least August 1730. At some point, Joseph returned to Quebec. He was a resident of Lachine, where he obtained a passport at age 16, on Jun 11, 1745. He obtain another passport at age 19, on Jun 10, 1748, to go to Poste de Michillimakinac, Louisianna Territory, as a cannoneer. Both times he went with Sir St. Germain and 5 other cannoneers. Joseph was known to live at New Chartres, where he was a carpenter, joiner, and a wheelwright. When he married, he was listed as a former resident of Ville Marie (Montreal). Joseph and Marie sold property in Fort Chartres, Illinois, including a parcel that Marie had inherited from Andre Thomas Desjardins. They sold two houses, one in 1759 and one Jan 14, 1761. There is also a record for sale of property on Mar 30, 1764. They moved to Pointe Coupee, Louisiana, in 1764 (sometime after the Treaty of 1763), and Joseph died 5 months after arriving there. Joseph and Marie's children: Marie Josephe m. Philippe Dagnioux*, Alexis m. Madaleine LeJeune, and Joseph m. Brigette LeJeune. Madaleine and Brigette were sisters.
* A later note says the Marie Josephe Picard married Philippe Dagnioux (d'Agnaux Douville) in 1745. (my NOTE: this is 14 years before her parents married. She died in 1748 at age 24, making her born about 1724. Her parents were listed as Philippe Picard and Marie Josephe Langlois. There is no marriage for a Philippe Picard and Marie Josephe Langlois in Jette's Dictionnaire before 1731. This needs further research.)
