(Dean) Downhour, was born on July 14, 1909 in Morristown Township, Minnesota. He married Helen M. Hermel on Feb. 8, 1931 in Wilton Twp., Waseca Co., Minnesota. He was a member of the Morristown Fire Dept. for 25 years, Morristown School Board for 2 terms and the Morristown Baseball Board for many years. He was an auto mechanic for Nordmeier Brothers in Morristown for 42 years. John Fred Hermel, 78, passed away at the Rice County District One Hospital in Faribault Saturday, Feb. 10. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, at the Cannonville Evangelical United Brethren Church, northwest of Waterville. Interment will take place in the church cemetery. Friends may call this afternoon and evening (Tuesday) at the Prosch Funeral Home in Waterville and one hour prior to services at the church. He is survived by his widow, Verna; four daughters, Mrs. Forrest (Helen) Downhour of Morrisstown, Mrs. Margaret Probasco, Mrs. Gladys Ploninsky, both of St. Paul, and Mrs. Hjalmer (Phyllis) Emundson of Portland, Ore.; four sons, Herman of Harris, Roy and Lawrence of Waterville and Fred of Cottage Grove; 21 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Mrs. Gus (Caroline) Fritz of Kilkenny; and 1 brother, Louie of Waterville. John Hermel was born in Elysian Township Aug. 30, 1894, to John and Matilda Hermel. He was married May 20, 1914 to Mabel Westgate, who passed away in 1920. Feb. 27, 1924, he was united in marriage to Verna Euderski.

Rose Marie Brennan of Ruther Glen, VA., formerly of Hastings, died unexpectedly Friday, Dec. 12, 2003. She was 83 years old. Mrs. Brennan was born to John Oliver Deane and Madeline Jane (nee Sommers) Deane on Oct. 7, 1920, in Ruther Glen. She married Paul Francis Brennan on Aug. 2, 1959, and he died Oct. 1, 1998. She was active in the Hastings VFW Auxilliary & Eagles Club. She is survived by her son Dean G. (Doreen) Brown of Burnsville; daughters Carol Ann (Tim) McCartney of Lakeville, and Nancy K. (Charles) Hutton of Ruther Glen; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sister Helen (Albert) Mamer of Hastings and brother William Deane of Riverside, Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother John Deane. Private family services will be held. The Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements. William Henry Deane of Riverside, Calif., formerly of Hastings, died Thursday, March 10, 2005. He was 82 years old. Mr. Deane was born in Hastings and graduated from Hastings High School. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Major and worked as a Realtor. He had lived in Riverside for 39 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Rita Sullivan Deane. He is survived by his daughter Muriel (Johnny) Gibson of Newport News, Va.; son Daniel W. (Julie) Deane of San Bernardino, Calif.; grandchildren, Rita, William, John, Robert, Brian and Danielle; two great-grandchildren; brother Harvey (Corrine) Behrenbrinker of Buffalo; sister-in-law Elaine Conley of Terre Haute, Ind.; sister Helen Mamer of Hastings; many nieces and nephews; goddaughter Mada Moy of Riverside; caregiver and best friends Phil Moy and Sam Avila of Riverside. Funeral services were held March 16 in Riverside. Memorials are preferred to American Heart Assn., American Institute for Cancer Research or AM-VETS National Service Foundation. Albert John Mamer of Hastings, a lifelong farmer, died Aug. 10, 2007. He was 89. He was born July 24, 1918, in Hastings, the son of John and Susan (Holzmer) Mamer. He married Helen Deane June 22, 1946, at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Hastings.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Mamer of Hastings; children, Ronald (Jeanne) Mamer, Roger (Sherral) Mamer, Jean (Jerry) Emerson, Richard (Bonnie) Mamer, Diane (James) Gergen, Russell (Marlys) Mamer, Donna (Jeffrey) Lorentz, Douglas Mamer and Steven (Kristina) Mamer, all of Hastings; 17 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. His parents, John and Susan Mamer; five brothers; and one sister preceded him in death.
A memorial gathering was held Aug. 13, 2007, at the Wise Family Funeral Home, Hastings. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Hastings food shelf, the American Cancer Society, or the American Diabetes Association. MORRISTOWN--Funeral services for Orrin Sylvester Rose, 64, resident of St. Paul, who died Saturday, May 15, at Bethesda hospital, St. Paul, after a heart attack, were held Monday at 2 o'clock in the First Baptist church of Morristown, the Rev. James Greene officiating. Interment was in the Morristown cemetery. The deceased was born in New Richland Nov. 24, 1885, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Rose. He grew to manhood in Waseca county and was married April 11, 1906 to Emma Alice Bock who preceded him in death three and a half years ago. To them were born one daughter, Margaret, and three sons, Orvil, Gerald and Gordon. Gordon died four years ago. Mr. Rose was again united in marriage Dec. 12, 1947, to Mrs. Nicolin Jacobsen of St. Paul. Surviving are the widow, his one daughter and two sons and five grandchildren; also four sisters, Mrs. Morris Sutlief of Akeley, Mrs. Emma Hammer of Wayzata, Mrs. Olive Dickenson of Park Rapids, and Mrs. Mary Hatch of St. Peter. Kritzer, daughter of Julius and Mary Waltz Antl, was born April 16, 1896 in Grand Rapids, Mich. She married Victor G. Kritzer May 22, 1918, in Waterville. They farmed for many years in Morristown Township. He preceded her in death on April 12, 1978. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. William (Floraine) Olson of rural Waseca; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Herbert (Emma) Kisor of Waterville. She was preceded in death by a sister Mrs. Mayme Kessel. (Jan. 1983)
