Thomas King married to Joannah
Marshall October 18, 1801 in King
George County, Virginia. Their only child, Richard Henry King was born
shortly after and the next record is of Joannah King and her son in
Arlington County, court Records.
Thomas King appears to be the son of Thomas King Senior and Jane
Garrard, daughter of William Garrard and wife Mary. Both William
and Mary left wills;
William Garrard 04 Nov 1746 25 Feb 1747
My son Nathaniel ; grandson William Garrard son of Nathaniel ; to son
Aaron Garrard ; daughter Jane Garrard ; daughter Sarah Garrard ; wife
Mary extx.; my four children.
April 10th, 1776. King George County, Virignia, Mary
Garrard, widow of William -- gives to her daughter, Jane King, and her
son-in-law, Thomas King, the use of one hundred and twenty acres of
land in Westmoreland county and Washington parish, it being the
plantation upon which she lived. After their decease it was to go
to her grandson Thomas King, and in the event of his death, to her
grandson Nathaniel King.
Note; Excerpt of the will of Ann Dishman, Westmoreland County, Virginia
Ann Dishman of Westmoreland County 1791
"I have been apprehensive for
sometime past that my son William would marry one of the daughters of
Thomas King, my neighbor. If he does, its contrary to the advice
of both is Father and myself, and should he do so, it is my will he
should not possess no part of the estate left him but shall be equally
divided between my son Samuel, daughters, Ann and Elizabeth."
William Dishman appears to *not* have married a daughter of Thomas King
but Nathaniel King married to Elizabeth Dishman in Westmoreland County
on 24 april 1792, Elizabeth was the daughter of John and Ann Dishman.

VET HORSE RACE STARTER IS
DEAD
New York- Oct 21st
The racing world today mourns
Mars Cassidy famous starter who in 30 years sent horses away in more
than 50,000 races. He was 67 years old. Stricken last Wednesday at the
Jamaica track he died at his home in Hollis, Queens, yesterday of
ulcers of the stomach.
He was known as one of the
most skilllfull and fearless men who ever handled the flag at a race
track and during his career officiated at all but a few of the great
races on American or Candadian tracks.
He was born at Edgarton, Md.,
and began starting races when he was a young man. When he was at the
old Bennings track near Washington his brilliant work attracted the
attention of August Belmont and in 1904 he was called to New York to
become alternate starter for the Jockey Club.
Although he was at times
subjected to bitter criticism there was never any scandal attached to
his name. The hisses and boos which sometimes greeted him after a bad
start never dimmed the smile with which he faced the grandstands. He
invented the walk up starter --- success of which was considered his
basis for his reputation.
