I'm currently researching my father's family, one of the many O'Brien clans in the area. It seems they settled after the Robinson influx, in Douro. Unfotunately, I'm having a bit of trouble 'crossing the pond' to Ireland. The story (unconfirmed) goes that my GG Grandfather John O'Brien (Not very imaginative with names in those days) came from Cork
via Boston, married my GG Grandmother Mary Fitzgerald (possibly in Boston), and lived and died in Duoro in 1867, though his wife lived on to Jan. 26, 1911. Unfortunately, I can't seem to pin down the year of settlement or his year of birth. Can't seem to locate a death notice, passage notice, marriage notice etc.. If you have a minute, any words of wisdom or pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
