Second Generation

3. Joseph PETERSON2,3,8,9,10 was born on 1 April 1668 in Duxbury, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. He died before 10 April 1751. See notes under his father John, concerning grants of land in Duxbury, Massachusetts.
In "History of Duxbury, Massachusetts:" "PROPRIETORS OF THE SECOND DIVISION. 39, '1710, January 30: Voted, that every proprietor of a lot, with a dwelling thereon, if he had been a townsman ten years, should have 40 acres allotted to him; and those, who have had previous grants, to have enough more to make up the 40 acres.'... Joseph Peterson being one of those listed who petitioned against it.."
From The Petersons of Duxbury, "Joseph is called "eldest" in his father's will and since his brother John died in 1690 it is assumed "eldest" means "eldest living.
At the division of the estate of Isaac Peterson in 1742, his only son Daniel being already dead and having left only two daughters, Isaac's brother Joseph, the eldest surviving son of John, became Isaac's next male heir; but Joseph quitclaimed his rights in the land to Isaac's daughters.
Joseph Peterson resided in North Duxbury, on South River, adjoining Marshfield, on a 90-acre farm, which he conveyed to his son Joseph in 1739."

Joseph PETERSON and Sarah JONES were married on 23 August 1704 in Plymouth, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. Sarah JONES2 was born on 12 September 1671 in Hingham, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. From The Petersons of Duxbury: "Her uncle John Jones mentions in his will his niece Sarah Peterson."
From Edward Doty Of The Mayflower states, "She was living 10 July 1752, when the accounting of the estate of Joseph Peterson mentions 'necessaries set off to the widow.'.....On 10 Feb 1713, Desire Doty chose Ephraim Little to be her guardian. No guardianship records for Sarah or Patience Doty have been found. Patience is known to have survived and married Kenelm Baker. Sarah appears in her father's will but may have died as a child, a preseumtion supported by the fact that her mother appears to have had a dau. Sarah by her second husband Joseph Peterson."
