The following was recorded by Richard Anderson, a descendant of Robert, in the Jersey City Cemetery records of the online database of Find-A-Grave: "Birth: Mar. 26, 1824 Lanarkshire, Scotland Death: Mar. 27, 1885 Brooklyn Kings County New York, USA Robert Anderson was born on March 26, 1824 in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland. His parents were Robert Anderson (a master baker) and Margaret Russell. Robert's first wife was Lucy Helen Peterson (daughter of Daniel & Sarah Peterson). They were married on March 5, 1851 in Portland, Cumberland County, Maine. Rev. Jacob R. Scott was the officiant. Their first child, Hewett Taylor, was born in Maine. They then moved to Boston where Robert originally settled. Robert operated a grocery store with his Uncle, Thomas Taylor. A second son was born in that city, named William McGowan. On June 19, 1857 Lucy died. Then Robert married his 2nd wife, Sarah Elizabeth Martin (daughter of Charles Martin & Susan Shope). Their wedding took place on November 11, 1857 in New York. They lived in Brooklyn and had four children named Malcolm Charles, Jennie Russell, Robert Lincoln, & Agnes Baird. Robert (Senior) was an accountant, clerk, and teller in that city. He was also a licensed Episcopal preacher for Brooklyn's Marine Barracks Chapel on Flushing Avenue & The Asylum For The Insane at Flatbush. The Episcopal Bishop of Long Island, Abraham Newkirk Littlejohn, gave the license. On March 27, 1885 Robert died and was buried at the Jersey City Cemetery.
