A wedding of great moment to Plainview people occurred Wednesday when Miss Leona Dickman and Mr. Earl M. Richmond were united in marriage at high noon at the home of the bride's parents. The vows were given by Rev. Theo. Schoewe under an arch of ferns, bridal wreath and roses. The couple was unattended and only the immediate families were present. Mrs. F.A. Dickman, sister-in-law of the bride played the Lohengrin wedding march preceding the ceremony.

The bride wore a gown of boise de crepe with self-color lace and carried a shower bouquet of aphelia roses and sweet peas. The wedding dinner was served at one o'clock to the twenty-five guests present. The table was decorated in a color scheme of pink and white with roses and smilax. Mr. and Mrs. Richmond left in the afternoon a camping trip in northern Minnesota where they expect to spend two weeks.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. H. Dickman and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Richmond. They are among Plainview's most popular and highly esteemed young people. Both have grown up in this city and both are graduates of the Plainview high school. No young people ever started in wedded life with more sincere wishes from a greater host of admiring friends. Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Dickman and son, George, of Pine Island were out of town guests at the wedding.

OBITUARY
Mrs. Leona Richmond, 92, died Sunday at Samaritan Bethany Nursing Home where she had lived for the past nine years. Born in Plainview, the former Leona Dickman graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. She married Ira M. Richmond and the couple lived in Plainview. Mr. Richmond died in 1941, and Mrs. Richmond moved to Rochester in 1948. She was a member of Mu Phi Epsilon sorority and Trinity Lutheran Church, and was past president of the American Legion Auxiliary in Plainview. Survivors include a daughter, Joyce (Mrs. John) Whiting of Burnsville; a son, Robert Richmond of Redwing; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

BIOGRAPHY
Daniel accompanied his father's family from Plymouth to Eastham in 1645. He settled in that part of Eastham now known as East Orleans, near where Joseph Taylor now resides. He was prominent in affairs of town and church. He was selectman, juryman, and surveyor. He was a deacon of the First church. He was an extensive landholder, with much land within the current town limits of Orleans. Like many in his family, he was buried in the old Town Cove burial ground. A small slatestone, still legible, marks his grave.

He was prominent within Harwich and was one of the petitioners for incorporation of the South Precinct. He was the town clerk and Parish Assessor for a number of years between 1749 and 1765. He was chosen selectman in 1751 and was re-elected each year until 1757. His residence was near that of the late Capt. Nathaniel Doane. Parents: Joseph DOANE and Mary GODFREY.

bullet John DOANE(147) John and his wife Ann came from England to the Plymouth colony about 10 years after the Mayflower arrived. They established themselves in the Plymouth community where John served both the government and his church. In 1645 they moved, along with several other families, to Nauset on Cape Cod where they built a home overlooking Nauset Bay where they spent the rest of their lives.

He was a member of the First Church of Eastham and is probably buried in the old Town Cove burial ground. Parents: John DOANE and Ann.

BIOGRAPHY
Joseph was a man of more than ordinary ability. He was long prominent in town, church, and judicial affairs, exhibiting rare judgment, great aptitude for public business and impartiality in the discharge of his official duties. He was a selectman of Eastham, town treasurer, town clerk, and a representative to the General court at Boston. He was commissioned Justice of the Peace for Barnstable County, a position he held until his death. As one of His Majestys Justices, he rendered great service to the Colonial Government in securing for trial the survivors of the crew of the noted pirate ship "Whiddah," and her tenders, wrecked on the east coast of Eastham, now Wellfleet, in April of 1717. The morning following the wreck, Mr. Doane received word that seven of the pirates had escaped and were on their way to Rhode Island. Mr. Doane, with the assistance of a deputy sheriff, pursued, overtook, and captured the seven. These men along with an eight he helped capture, went on trial in Boston the following October. He was a strict Calvinist and member of the First Church of Eastham, now the Congregation Church of Orleans. He succeeded his father as Deacon in that church.

Mr. Doane resided in that part of the ancient Eastham, now called Orleans, about one eighth of a mile easterly from the Congregational Church, on the north side of the road. His farm consisted of many acres of land there.

BIOGRAPHY
Nathaniel was born at the old family homestead in Harwich. Although he had but a public school education, Nathaniel taught school in Harwich for twelve years. At the same time, he was the master of a ship that engaged in coastal trading during the summers he taught, then worked in the tow boat business until 1860. He later served on the Harwich school board. He was chief among the organizers of the establishment of the Pilgrim Church of Harwich Port in 1855 and served as its treasurer for 16 years. His adventures into politics was short-lived. He was elected the Representative in the Legislature in 1858, representing the towns of Chatham, Harwich, Dennis, and Yarmouth and, in 1860, defeated by a single vote. After 1860, his interests focused on farming and the culture of cranberries. He was a Justice of the Peace and a trustee of the Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank. He was married to Zilphra Jane DOANE in 1862. Children were: Mary Louise DOANE.
