Richard ran the business until he died. The business was sold shortly thereafter. He died of apoplexy when his valet set out the wrong suit of clothes for him to wear to a board meeting. We have a silver pitcher from Bailey, Banks and Biddle from the occasion of their 25th wedding anniversary -6-Annie T. General Notes: According to MJ, "Grandfather" went blind as a young man when a tree branch snapped in his face. He never worked, living off the shoe-black (and saddlesoap) money. He had asthma so he moved the family west, first to Arizona and then to La Jolla. MJ thinks her grandmother was dead already or soon after. Charles joined the Pinkertons because, even though he was blind, he wanted to carry a gun.
Charles married Helen Mary Watson on 26 Jan 1897 in Philadelphia PA. Helen was born on 18 Jul 1872 in Philadelphia PA and died on 14 Mar 1926 in La Jolla, San Diego Cty, CA, at age 53.
