Henry and Michael Wilson

In the 1830 census, Henry Wilson b. 1808 is living in district #7 of Frederick County, Maryland. His land, ten acres of "Clary's New Holland," was adjacent to "Gotham" and "Hockstadt" of the Heilman/Fultz group, but was counted in Frederick rather than Baltimore. His neighbors in this Frederick County enumeration include names appearing in the Baltimore Pipe Creek census before this year - afterwards, they all appear together in the Carroll County census: Frederick Hiser (Heiser, Hauser) (his father-in-law) and George Hiser (his brother-in-law), Catharine Zepp (widow of Peter), Elias Harrick, David and George Mathias (Hauser in-laws), George and Henry Weaver (who have many land dealings with the family).
Church records and chancery papers establish that his wife was Susanna Heiser/Hauser, daughter of Frederick. Henry married Susannah Heiser around 1829; their first child, Mary Ann (who probably never married), was born in 1831, and a large family was begun (see below). Frederick Heiser (Hauser, Hiser) his father-in-law had a large family and Henry, as administrator of his estate, was embroiled in a chancery case which had a great deal of genealogical information on the Heiser clan.

By the time of the first Carroll County census in 1840 Michael Wilson appears near Henry Wilson and Henry's in-laws as well as his own new in-laws: his mother-in-law, the widow Fultz, and his wife's son John Fultz Jr. Michael, according to cemetery and census records, was born March 25, 1812 in Maryland.
In 1841 and in 1850, Michael's mother-in-law, the widow Foltz, sold him parts of her holdings in Hockstadt Enlarged and Gotham.
Michael's two daughters by Polly Fultz are in the Zion Church records. The first was Lydia A. Elizabeth, b. 12 Aug 1836, baptised by Rev. Jacob Albert. To the left is a picture of Lewis and Lydia (Wilson) Loats. Lewis H. Loats was born October 28, 1833. Lewis and Lydia married around 1858 and had two children: Charles L. Loats b. April 29 1861 and Agnes V. Loats b. June 16, 1867.

The only other child of Michael and Polly [Foltz] Wilson was my ancestor Isidora. You can see in the baptismal certificate to the right she was born 10 June 1838 to Michael Wilson and his wife Mary a daughter of John Foltz, baptism sponsored by Annamari Foltz, Grandmother.
We see by this grandmother Annamari Foltz's will that Polly Fultz Wilson, the mother of Lydia and Isadora, predeceased her own mother, the widow Annamari Fultz, who died Jan 14 1867 and is buried with her husband at St David's. In her will dated 1859 she leaves of her estate: "one third part to my daughter Sarah intermarried with Michael D. G. Pfeiffer, one third part thereof to my grandson John Foltz, and one third part thereof to my two granddaughters Lydia Ann Elizabeth Lootz and Izadora Grimm." In fact, according to her tombstone Anna Mary "Polly" Fultz Wilson died January 23, 1855 and is buried at St David's.

The widower Michael remarried to Elizabeth Stavely on October 28, 1855 at St. David's, and had with his second wife two more daughters who can be dimly seen with them in the picture on the right. Daughter Ann, b 1857, must have predeceased him without issue, and daughter Louisa, b 1859, was incompetent and did not marry. Elizabeth died January 14, 1894. I do not know what happened to Louisa after Dr. John F. B. Weaver refused guardianship.

Michael's brother Henry Wilson died suddenly in 1870. Henry's widow Susannah continued to live near Michael Wilson. Susannah [Heiser] Wilson died January 24, 1891 and is buried at St. David's with her husband. I don't know if she had a will.

Michael Wilson died April 11, 1885.

In the name of God Amen, I, Michael Wilson of Manchester District Carroll County and State of Maryland, Yeoman, being sick and weak of body, but of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding, praised be God for it, considering the certainty of death, knowing that my end is fast approaching, therefore to be the better prepared to leave this world and to have my worldly affairs settled up, when it shall please Almighty God to call me hence do therefore make, publish and declare this as my last Will and Testament in manner following to wit... I will and bequeath unto my beloved wife ... all my Real Estate that is to say my home, during her lifetime ...
It is my will that after my wife's decease my said Executor make public sale ... after the same is converted into money I will to my daughter Isadore intermarried with William Grimm One hundred dollars and onto my grandson Charles L. Loats, fifty dollars, and unto my granddaughter Agnes V. Loats fifty dollars and the remainder of the money, I will and bequeath to my daughter Louisa, that is to say the interest thereof, and to fulfill this my intention it is my will that my wife shall be my said daughter Louisa's Guardian, as long as she may live, being she is not competent to manage for herself and after my said wife's decease then it is my will that Dr. J.
