Martin Minter family of Carroll County

Information on the Minter family was sent to me by Clark Minter cminter@voicenet.com.

"The name was originally Gminder, Gminter, then Minder, then Minter.

"Martin Minter born 1765 was the son of the early immigrant Hans Martin born 1730 in Reutlingen Germany and arrived here in 1753, perhaps having travelled with a group. They were big on weaving linen in Germany & Switzerland but here they were into apple farming... around Arendtsville according to the records of the Lutheran & reformed Church in Arendtsville. They had a farm near Biglerville & he had several children before he moved to Carroll County with his first wife. He had several brothers & sisters who are buried in Arendtsville at the Lutheran & Reformed Church. Martin, I just found out, is buried in Westminster at a church where there is a large Oak tree I think it is called Zion.

"Martin's first son Michael born 1797 in Arendtsville, Pa. died at age 32. His youngest was my great grandfather who operated the National Hotel in Waynesboro, Pa.

"I have copies of old wills which mention Rachel b 1834"

I thank Clark for this information. I am particularly interested in the son William Minter born September 1832 who married Amelia Fuhrman, daughter of John and Rachel Fuhrman.
