FOURTH GENERATION

20. Adam Harry Jones was born on 19 Jan 1858 in Myers District, Carroll Co., MD. He died on 18 Jul 1925 in Allingdale, Nicholas Co., WV. He was buried in Black Chapel Cemetery, Nicholas Co., WV. Adam Harry Jones was a man of many talents. he was a Taxidermist, a carpenter, a stamp collector, a butterfly collector, he loved flowers and had many flowere gardens, and read many different types of books. Some of the birds he had stuffed were at one time, and may still be, on display in the Smithosnian Institute in Washington, D.C.

He left home when he was just a young man and said in later years that he had been in every state in the Union but two. During the period of 1917-18 he worked in Springfield, Ohio and would send money and gifts home to the family. He had a carpenters shop not far from their house in Allingdale, Nicholas County, WV where he would make furniture and repair tools for the Lumber Mill at Gauley Mills, Wevster County, WV.

In the 1880 Census of the 2nd Electorial District in Carroll County, MD Adam was listed with another family. He was head of the household and was 22 years of age. His wife was listed as Mary A. Jones, 19 years of age. They had a daughter Martha W. who was one year of age and a son William H. Jones whos was one month old at the time the census was taken. Also living in the household was Adam's sister, Louisa V. Jones who was 11 years old at the time.

I was told that in the Wentz Meeting House Cemetery in Hanover, York Co., PA that Adam Harry had a son buried there. The name on the tombstone was Tolly Jones and that he had been raised by his grandparents. The inscription on the tombstone was in German.

I was also told that when Adam Harry and Ella had their son James Rudy that this Mary A. came to the house and wanted to see if Rudy looked like hers and Adam Harry's son. Ella would not let her in the house and made her leave.

If Tolly was Adam Harry's son, Tolly was a young man of about 10 years old when he died. It is quite probable that Adam was married to Anna Stonesifer.

Retrieved from the Internet January 18, 2001.

He was married to Mary A. WFT Est. 1875-1906. Mary A. was born WFT Est. 1854-1873. She died WFT Est. 1879-1958. Adam Harry Jones and Mary A. had the following children:

She died on 31 Jan 1953 in Craigsville, Nicholas Co., WV. She was buried in Black Chapel Cemetery, Nicholas Co., WV. Everyone in the family believed Ella's birthdate was March 1, 1876. That is when she told them she was born and that is when they always celebrated her birthday. I do not know why her official birth record in Preble Co., OH says October 3, 1875. Adam Harry Jones and Elzina Jane Mary Magdalene Rape had the following children:

+44i.Rele Ellen Jones.

She did express some frustratio n over how things have been built up since she was there last. We also went to Kreider's Chu rch Cemetery but had a little difficulty due to the change in traffic patterns. I will remem ber these days spent with her for the rest of my life. She was so happy.
